Memorial Day Weekend: Four Fabulous and Budget-Friendly Getaways

With Memorial Day weekend coming up, our friends at ShermansTravel.com have hand-picked some of the best places to celebrate the unofficial kick-off to summer with deals starting at just $79 per night.

■    Palm Springs has long been a playground for Hollywood’s A-List. But your name need not be Jolie or Pitt to treat yourself to a fab getaway at this posh desert oasis. Rates at the Hotel Zoso, located steps from Palm Springs’ celebrated shops, dining, and galleries, start at just $128 per night and include daily breakfast, complimentary upgrade to next room category and late check-out, based on availability.

■    Austin boasts some of best cultural offerings in the Lone Star State, with numerous galleries and museums. But the capital of Texas is best known for its energetic music scene, with nearly 200 music venues, and its amazing foodie scene. Rates at the Barton Creek Resort & Spa start at $132 per night and include complimentary room upgrade, daily breakfast, and late check-out, based on availability.

■    Bermuda is known for its long stretches of pink-sand beaches, championship golf courses – and celebrity homeowners like Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. At a mere 2.5-hour plane ride from New York City, Bermuda is a quick-and-easy Memorial Day beach getaway.  Four-night packages including round-trip air at Bermuda’s Surf Side Beach Club start at just $519 per person, double occupancy.

■    Hilton Head is a popular Memorial Day weekend getaway in South Carolina, with pleasant weather, championship golf courses, budding apple blossoms and BRAVO, an annual art-and-cultural festival that is in full swing by the end of May. The island’s succulent seafood and upscale shopping round out the Hilton Head experience. Rates at the Players Club Hotel on Hilton Head Island begin at just $79 per night through June 9, 2011 (a two-night minimum stay is required).
