40-Love: Take in the US Open, American Express Style

By  August 28, 2014

Games within sets, sets within matches, and proclamations of “40-love” to round it all out—regular tennis spectators are more than familiar with the sport, but novices may not be as quick to keep up. With the commencement of the 2014 US Open, though, American Express makes sure that all fans, new and old, partake in the spender of tennis whites, hard surfaces, and Grey Goose Honey Deuce cocktails, in style.

American Express, an official sponsor of the bout, is back with its third US Open Fan Experience: a two-story coven, complete with a full-sized tennis court, for cardholders to cool off and immerse themselves in an environment where style, technology, and tennis meet. Before taking in Roger Federer and Serena Williams’s respective round one wins, we hung out at AmEx’s US Open Fan Experience and found five things you should do when gearing up for the Grand Slam.

1. Get a preview of James Murphy’s tennis-data inspired mix. The DJ and LCD Soundsystem front man is working with IBM to turn tennis data from each match into algorithms that will, in turn, yield 400 hours of music. Listen here.

2. Swing that thing. Ever wondered where you rank amongst heavy hitting UTSA pros? Stop by the Swing Analysis station where cutting-edge technology will measure your impact, racquet speed, and spin rate, so you can…

3. Serve it up on the Fan Court. This full-size, kid-friendly court offers tennis sessions for children 10 and under, clinics, and meet-and-greets with pro tennis players like Jack Sock and Monica Puig.

4. Strike a pose with Sloane Stephens. If you can’t catch the 21-year-old phenom on the court, you can pose with her hologram in a card-members only section of the Fan Experience. Or, if you prefer to pose solo…

5. Get candid with the brand-new Ram Cam. Grab a racquet, and have your best tennis pose caught on a 180-degree candid camera.

As a bonus, the AmEx enclave offers a retrospective on stand-out tennis court style; Mophie juice packs and charging stations; a US Open-synced radio; and, for the first time ever, a MyOpen, RFID wristband to capture your entire Fan Experience and deliver it straight to your inbox. Any other day in Queens won’t quite compare.
