Glam checked in with L’Oréal Professionnel Session Artist, Joseph DiMaggio as he gears up for the Timo Weiland Spring 2013 show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Here he shares a rundown of his day including commuting, crafting styles for both male and female models, and snagging a slice of New York City.
11:00AM: Without that pesky alarm kicking me in the ear, I woke up well rested and ready for my daily grind. Took my puppy out for a walk as always, then I brushed my teeth and took a shower.
12:00PM: Checked my email, Instagram, and Facebook. Made my morning post and hit “like” a few times. Threw on some fresh new kicks and headed out the door.
12:30PM: Got in my car and hit up the gas station to fill up my tank. Grabbed a Red Bull Zero and a buttered roll, blasted some music, and hopped on the LIE, headed for the midtown tunnel.
1:00PM: Thank God there was no traffic this morning! Paid my $6.50 toll and headed through the tunnel, then pulled into the parking garage on 38th between 7th and Broadway.
1:30PM: Got my kit out of the trunk, filled with all my tools and impressively organized pin kit. Haha! Grabbed a giant bag full of L’Oréal Professionnel products, not knowing what the day will bring but ready for anything! Walked over to the Timo Weiland showroom and headed up the elevator.
2:00PM: Arrived at the Timo Weiland showroom for the hair test in preparation for the Spring 2013 runway show on Sunday, September 9
2:30PM: Went through the inspiration and look with Alan (one of the collection’s designers) and started laying out the L’Oréal Professionnel products that I thought would do the trick for what we had discussed.
2:45PM: Looked around wondering if the extensions ever made it and yes indeed. The box is here! I’ve got to have my LOX extensions!
3:00PM: Created the men’s look having a clear vision in mind what I wanted to do and hoping it would all come to fruition as planned. There’s positive feedback so far as the model is taken back to try on some of the collection so that we could see the overall look. Success! They all love it, and it starts growing on them more and more every minute.
3:20PM: Waited for the female model to be done with makeup so I can start messing around with her hair. Getting a little case of grumble tums as I realized I hadn’t eaten much today.
3:45PM: Male hair look: APPROVED – super stoked on the outcome and very positive feedback.
4:30PM: Female model is ready for the hot seat. She’s a bit frizzy so I reach for L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Milk to start with. The look is a bit of a process with tedious twists and overlapping sections carefully wrapped and tied throughout.
4:45PM: Finally! Gave the step-by-step instructions of the looks for backstage, trying to remember exactly what it was I had just done. Haha! Threw up some behind the scenes pics for my Instagram fans and gave a couple high fives and we are good to go.
5:00PM: Hair test is over and everyone was pleased and confident, so I neatly re-packed my kit back up and headed back home, but not before I grab a hot delicious New York City slice to throw down my mouth. I’m looking forward to another amazing show and season with my team and with L’Oréal Professionnel.
