The story of Proenza Schouler‘s beginning, which you’ve undoubtedly heard, goes like this. For their senior thesis at Parsons, McCollough and Hernandez created a collection, which was immediately purchased in full by Barneys. Talk about dream grade. From there, the design team and store have cultivated an ever growing relationship. To honor that, and a decade-long partnership, Proenza Schouler and Barneys decided to recreate those first designs for a capsule collection, titled “Proenza Schouler: First Collection.” It will consist of 19 pieces from the designers’ first runway show during fall 2003.
But this is far from an artistic installation as a celebration. The capsule collection will go on sale at Barneys’ Madison Avenue and Los Angeles stores beginning on Friday, ranging in price from $850 to $5,650. On Barneys end, the store will dedicate all of the windows on Madison Avenue to the project, and create a shopping website, giving certain Proenza supporters first access to the sale. “We anticipate that it will sell out online fairly quickly,” said Daniella Vitale, Barneys’ chief operating officer and senior executive vice president.
