Instead of recreating pieces from Bourdin’s portfolio like he did for the Warhol collection last year, François Nars reformulated his eye shadows with high pearl and metallic sheen and his lipstick with a megawatt shine to replicate the saturated cinematic look of Bourdin’s vibrant images. There will also be blush and nail polish to accompany the stocking stuffers. The collection will hit shelves the same day as their Snapchat debut for $19-$29.
Never one to skimp on a great gift set, Nars will have 8 to choose from, including Sephora exclusives like the One Night Stand Cheek Palette and Promiscuous Mini Lip Coffret. The Fling Lip Kit, Crime of Passion Face Kit, Beautiful Stranger Nail Polish Coffret, Voyeur, Mini Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner Coffret, Cosmetic Poushette with a heart design, and Splendor in the Grass Cheek Palette (ranging from $35-$75) will feature a mix of the beauty brand’s best sellers and new shades with names chosen by Nars, as Bourdin never titled his photos.
Bourdin was another artist who had a great influence on Nars, who featured the artist’s images for his 2005, 2007, and 2011 collections, and even named his matte red blush Exhibit A after a book of Bourdin’s work. “When I was a young boy, I would go through my mother’s French Vogue and tear out Guy Bourdin images,” he told of his fascination to WWD. “Bourdin’s images were always the ones that really got my attention — he created a world that was so magical to me. From the lighting and the makeup to the abstract backgrounds and poses, Guy built up his own world. There is a certain decadence in Guy’s work that really struck a chord with me.”
We already have at least half of the collection, including the lip coffret on our holiday wish list!
