Every two years, the United States and Europe have the opportunity to duke it out on the golf course as part of the Ryder Cup. But the US only has the opportunity to host every four years and for 2012 Chicago did the honors. In order to experience all that the Ryder Cup has to offer, American Express and Glam Media invited Patrice of Afrobella, Sarah of Skinny Runner, Gigi of The Awesomer, Lisa of Fantabulously Frugal, Melissa of Factio Magazine, for a day at the course; I joined this illustrious bunch in experiencing the glam side of golf. It was the opportune time to exhibit our interpretation of country club chic.
The Ryder Cup was held at the legendary Medinah Country Club, which is located just outside of Chicago. Upon arrival, the #GlAmExRyder crew posed for a few necessary shots against the beautiful backdrop and headed inside to get our golf on! Inside the venue, we checked out the PGA Learning Center presented by American Express, complete with venues where golf aficionados young and old could practice their swing, take lessons, and receive advice. Phil Mickelson’s strength trainer, Sean Cochran set up shop to help newbies and enthusiasts improve their form, flexibility and strength.
Given the sheer size of the club, American Express cardmembers were lucky to have an added perk at their disposal in the form of specialized televisions. No matter their location throughout the day, the handheld tv allows users to check in on their favorite players across the rolling hills and stay up to date on their progress as the competition got underway.
After getting our swing on, the Glam crew strolled across the course, stopping to watch golfers like Bubba Watson tee off during practice rounds. Once we hit hole 15, it was time to post up in the American Express Hospitality Chalet, where we snacked on vegan wraps, a selection of delicious salads, divine mac and cheese, and a whole freezer stocked with ean impressive selection of ice cream . Once we were satiated, we took to the deck, where cardmembers have the opportunity to watch rounds while perched above. Between the beautiful fall day, the VIP style amenities from American Express and the brilliant company, our excursion to the Ryder Cup was certainly a once in a lifetime, memorable moment!
