Spoiler alert! If you haven’t had a chance to watch the finale of Bravo TV’s The Fashion Show and you don’t want us to ruin the surprise, we suggest you stop reading and move on to the next post! (We’ve even cleverly incorporated the pictures of all three finalists to keep up the suspense…)
So who could it be? James-Paul, Anna, or Daniella?
It’s Anna McCraney, the quiet, dark horse of the competition! The soft-spoken, drama-free designer won the audience over by quite a landslide, earning 56% of the vote, while fellow finalists Daniella and James-Paul received 25% and 19% respectively. Anna beat out the competition with her eclectic, colorful, and ultimately very wearable final collection, which was inspired by a single work of art.
I was inspired by the painting “The Garden of Earthly Delights.” In the center panel, it depicts this sort of fantasy world of sinful pleasure. I was really delighted by the images of humans frolicking with animals, giant fruit and birds, and these very futuristic structures in the background that almost resemble a Frank Gehry building. I loved the mix of very primitive imagery and almost surreal modern elements. The painting was done in 1500, so it was very ahead of its time. It almost references religion, if only to get away with doing something incredibly subversive. (From her Q&A with BravoTV.com.)
Anna’s victory brought her a cash prize of $125,000, and some of the pieces from her winning collection are available for purchase on BravoTV.com (we especially love the dark baby doll “petal dress”). Daniella also picked up a prize of $10,000 as the judges’ pick. Congratulations to both of them!
As for a second season of The Fashion Show, there’s no word yet, but our fingers are crossed!
