Ashley Olsen, one half The Row and Elizabeth and James, has just been elected to the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s board. The invitation-only membership is made up of 400 designers. Olsen honed her design chops way back when she and her twin sister, Mary-Kate, played Michelle Tanner on Full House.
“[On Full House] we’d be in six-hour fittings three times a week, because we had to wear 12 different outfits,” Ashley told Net-A-Porter’s The Edit about cutting up Chanel and Marc Jacobs to fit her and her sister. “We were designing clothes for ourselves as we were so petite,” Mary Kate added. “So I think that this is where we became obsessed with fit, and now the obsession has become a profession.”
Ashley will join other new board members Kate Spade president and creative chief officer Deborah Lloyd and designer Prabal Gurung who will replace Yeohlee Teng, Kenneth Cole, and Isabel Toledo who will join the special Emeritus Board (they can keep the title but give up responsibilities), British Vogue is reporting.
No word on whether Mary-Kate is expected to join.
