Q: I am in my mid-thirties and am starting to think about improving my wardrobe. I want to shop smarter but I am still hooked on fast fashion. How do I cut myself off of the cheap thrills?

A: Girl, I get it! In fact, just today I was doing some online shopping and was so tempted to head over to Zara.com and call it a day. Now there is nothing wrong with stores like Zara, H&M, Forever 21, and Topshop but the older you get the less sense those purchases make. Once you hit 30, your clothing really needs to last. What you need is a curated wardrobe.

Here is the rub, a curated wardrobe can feel more costly than one built on fast fashion. Note the word feel. Buying $300 worth of trendy items at Zara that you will wear once is a lot more expensive than a great designer piece that will last you the rest of your life.

So here is my challenge to you. For the next three months shop smart, shop quality, and quit shopping fast fashion – just for three months. See how you feel and see how your new curated wardrobe starts to take shape. Still not convinced?
