Ask a Stylist: How Can I Make Office Attire More Exciting?

By  September 24, 2013

Q: I work in a fairly conservative office but I really want to punch up my office look with some stylish elements. How can I do that without scaring people at the office?

A: I remember the days of working in an office. It was always so difficult to hide away my fashionable side. There are ways to feed that fashionable beast without drawing too much attention to yourself at the office.

The short answer is accessories. Strategically placed accessories can go a long way in a conservative office environment. Pins, scarves, jewelry, bags, and even tech accessories can add personality to your seemingly dull ensemble.

The secret to keeping it appropriate is all in the amount of flash. Just because you are wearing a navy suit and closed-toe shoes doesn’t mean you can wear a statement necklace the size of a dinner plate. Feel me? Go for an accessory that speaks (in a small voice) to your personal style. A unique but delicate necklace or a colorful pair of shoes will go a long way.

Here are a few of my office appropriate favorites to get you started.

Erdem scarf // Dolce & Gabbana iPad sleeve // Herve Van Der Straeten bracelet // Saint Laurent shoes // Bijoux Heart earrings

And remember, being at work is just a portion of your life. You can let your fashionable side really run wild in the evenings and on weekends.
