Backstage Beauty Beat: Libertine

THE SHOW: Libertine

THE HAIR: Kerastase hair pros created loose, effortless curls for an easy dose of California cool. After blowing models’ tresses silky smooth, coif crafters prepped their hair with Double Force Controle Ultime to strengthen the hair and ready it for heat styling. After wrapping sections of hair around a curling rod, stylists sealed the deal with Kerastase’s Double Force Extra Srength Hold Multi Protective Spray to keep volume in play while further fortifying the strands.

THE MAKEUP: MAC Cosmetics makeup maven Chantel Miller turned the black cat eye all the way to the extreme for Libertine’s funky Fall 2013. Inspired by creative director Johnson Hartig‘s retro vibe, the face was left nice and neutral while lips were nearly nude with a pleasant undertone of pink, channeling all of our attention on the killer cat eye. After priming the lids, Miller used Fluidline in Blacktrack, a smooth gel formula that glides on like a liquid liner but leaves a silkier finish. She carefully shaped a graphic 1960s wing along the top lid while rimming halfway under the bottom lashline for that extra pop factor.

THE MANI: Butter London global color ambassador Katie Hughes created 3-D nails with plenty of bling that made for the ultimate accent to Libertine’s wool and tweed creations. Inspired by a collage of unique art and embellishments, Hughes blended a bespoke gold — available in summer — called Marbs for the base. She and her team then used the same crystals seen on Hartig’s designs and cascaded them down the nail for an opulent touch.
