Baz Luhrmann is as talented and authentic as filmmakers get. His genius work has earned him prestige, fame, and respect among peers and fans alike. The brilliant brain behind groundbreaking films like Strictly Ballroom, William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, and Australia, Luhrmann is a Hollywood legend in the making.
Luhrmann was recently in New York City to talk to the press about two of his most famous films — Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge — being transformed into Blu-Rays; and he couldn’t be more excited about the enhanced quality on the high-def platform. Luhrmann described it as a relationship with a person that has become “deeper, richer, and better.” And while he thinks they’re more aesthetically impressive than ever, Luhrmann wouldn’t change anything about the formula of his films. He admits that he’ll always ask himself “what if,” but he would never actually alter anything. “You don’t want to change the DNA because of its connection to the audience.”
Baz Luhrmann’s wife Catherine Martin was the production and costume designer on his films, and he gushed about working with his life and film partner, “She makes it happen… It’s wonderful.” It’s true what they say: “Behind every great man, there is a great woman.” Martin showed equal appreciation and admiration for her husband exclaiming that Luhrmann inspires her every idea.
Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge will be available on Blu-Ray on Oct. 19.
