Winter Storm Juno has swept through the northeast, not only shutting down New York City, but also leaving our skin dry and a bit windburned. While lush lotions are our regular go-tos, the winter chill and the heat to thaw us out require us to use more heavy-duty moisturizers that incorporate oil. Whether liquid, solid, or something in between, we’ve found formulas to refresh the face and body with a hydrated and healthy glow.
The mega model linked up once again with Mark & Spencer for a fresh and mysterious fragrance, almost as a follow up to her line of lingerie that will hit shelves across the pond on January 28. Aptly called Rosie for Autograph, Huntington-Whiteley traveled to New York, London, and Grasse to perfect the formula, which was modeled after a summer morning in the British countryside. She even shot the campaign in her home county of Devon. “Shooting the campaign where I grew up was a natural choice, I felt it gave the perfect backdrop and really captured the delicate, truly beautiful sentiment I wanted for my fragrance,” she told The Telegraph. “It was very important to me when creating the fragrance that every aspect be close to my heart.”
As such, the British beauty would be remiss not to include a rose note, putting a centifolia rose at the heart of the scent. “As with my lingerie collection, I was drawn to the elegance and simplicity of the centifolia rose used in the fragrance,” she explained. “A rare, vintage style flower, it really encapsulates what this fragrance is about to me – a fresh yet mysterious scent, which feels luxurious and sexy.” To amplify the fragrance’s sensuality, Huntington-Whiteley added pepper, lemon, vanilla, and sandalwood notes – making it a must for Valentine’s Day.
Beauty Buzz: Selena Gomez Rocks the ‘Rachel’, Pat McGrath’s Latest Killer Beauty Looks, and Gwen Stefani Branches Further Into Beauty
“Rachel, is that you?” is likely what many thought when Selena Gomez’s fresh cut came across their Instagram feed. The star’s new length left a lot of layers, similar to Jennifer Aniston’s iconic style. It’s no surprise, as the young songstress has been a fan of Aniston’s since she was eight. Gomez captioned a picture of the pair, “I have not only been following her career as a fan since I was 8 and now get to watch her completely transform in her new movie Cake, I have gotten to have real conversations with such a real heart, made my entire year.” What a fitting homage! Haute Couture week has kicked off a serious high note for beauty buffs. Versace channeled its inner bad girl with a smoked out version of a crease-cutting cat-eye, courtesy of Pat McGrath. But the makeup maestro already had a head start at the Givenchy Fall 2015 menswear show. She remixed her tribal masks from the women’s show, but gave supermodels oil-slicked smoky eyes and glossy Bordeaux lips, paired with gelled baby hair. It’s time to go bold or go home! Gwen Stefani didn’t have to look far for inspiration for her latest beauty venture. The Voice judge revealed that a lipstick line is in the works at the announcement of her MasterCard’s Priceless Surprises concert. Stefani served as lip model, rocking the fresh formula in her signature red hue at the event. “This red that I’m wearing right now is a prototype,” she said, noting she’s test driving different brands to bring out the best in hers. After fragrances and nail polishes, our only question is why she didn’t start on this sooner? [People]
As people streamline their beauty routines, brands are catching up with more functions for their makeup must-haves. Case in point: Clinique. The brand will introduce its Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer this February, a 20-shade, full coverage foundation that lasts for 12 hours without creasing or feeling heavy. Plus, it comes with a wiper applicator to ensure you have the perfect amount of product every time. Needless to say, we’ll be snapping this up ASAP come spring. [WWD]
No one can say no to Oreos, but wearing it is another issue entirely. YouTube beauty guru Katherine Ward has crafted the perfect recipe for lush lashes with help from the chocolaty cookie. All you have to do is smash the cookie into a fine powder—no cream necessary—add a little water and face or eye primer, and voila, comestible cosmetics! [She Finds]
Benefit is granting our wish through a partnership with BaubleBar. Aptly called Beauty Genie in a Bottle, the three-item set features a fabulous BaubleBar accessory and two cult classics from Benefit. With fabulous fortunes like “Sparkle, Shine & All Things Fine,” “Real Romance & A Rosy Future” and “Love, Luck & Long Lashes,” they’ll be welcome by any beauty buff when it hits shelves on January 27. Just in time for awards season, Juicy Couture wants to celebrate your red carpet moments with a sweet new scent. Juicy Couture Hollywood Royal adds a little edge to its signature scent to ensure everyone who wears it becomes the center of a attention. With a blend of candied apple, juicy pear, pomelo, jasmine sambac, gardenia Brazil, cashmere wood, and vanilla, the scent is sure to snap necks for an extra whiff. [Glam Inbox]
A motley mod squad emerged for Dior’s Haute Couture Spring 2015 show, blending the most stylish aspects of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s into an explosion of color. Raf Simons worked with Peter Philips and Guido Palau to balance the ensembles without losing the collection’s bravado.
The key was the psychedelic ponytail. Simons crafted lacquer metal rings that Palau attached to a sleek, French roll-inspired updo, slicked back with Redken’s Forceful 3 Super Strength Finishing Spray. He then hung extensions to the other end to look like a wrapped ponytail. “Though it’s classic, there is a ‘Diorness’ to it, a [futuristic take], a modernity because it has this very simplistic sort of feel,” Palau told Women’s Wear Daily.
For balance, Philips tapped into the natural beauty of each model, using Diorskin Nude Air Ultra-Fluid Sérum Foundation to even tone. He made the peepers pop with the upcoming Dior Eye Reviver Illuminating Neutrals Eye Palette, shading the upper and inner corners for a lifted and illuminated look. For the rest of the face, he only added a little powder and blush for a healthy flush, and finished with a little Dior Addict Lip Maximizer. “It’s very tender and a nice contrast,” Philips explained. “I avoided making an epoch reference in makeup to keep it modern.”
Though we may not replicate this look in its entirety, we’ll have to up our hair game with a few choice accessories for Spring 2015.
The girl power was through the roof with the cast of Orange is the New Black, Uzo Aduba, and Viola Davis snagging top honors at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards and rocked the red carpet at the same time. While we couldn’t get over the glitzy gowns, the natural beauty looks and sultry strands were not to be missed so you can get the look of some of your favorite stylish stars.
We know it’s somewhat ironic to cover our face in oil while simultaneously carrying oil blotters in our handbags, but hear us out.
It seems like just yesterday we were all obsessed with combating oil. Oily hair and skin = bad. Clearasil = good. Right? Wrong. Well, not wrong. Just perhaps not so black and white. These days, there are some killer new products on the market to help harness the moisturizing powers of oil without subjecting you to all of the icky stuff that goes along with it (like stinky smelly hair and acne, for starters). It has to do with the differences between mineral oils and plant based oils (head here if you want the scientific scoop on it all).
But if all you want is Jennifer Anniston’s complexion sans makeup, well then listen up. We have been using oil based products on our skin for awhile now and, we must admit, we are huge proponents of the stuff. If you have yet to oil up or even if you are already well greased, we have a few suggestions for your face that’ll leave your skin aglow.
TOMBOY KC is a fashion and lifestyle blog written by actress Katie Cassidy and pint-sized real-life friend, Lynsey Eaton. Focused on personal style that is, well, personal, TKC is a place for smart and opinionated (read: sarcastic) women to join together and accumulate stilettos while collectively wearing their sneakers…everywhere. Self proclaimed nomads, when the girls aren’t traveling for work or buying two of everything (one apiece, you see), you can find them sitting on Lynsey’s couch eating pizza and drinking champagne in men’s pajamas while waxing poetic about the present state of culottes. Feel free to come on over.
Beauty Buzz: Anna Cleveland’s Cotton-Covered Lashes, Givenchy’s Aromas to Apertifs, and DreamDry Joins Up With Jonathan Adler
We love a little denim, but the latest issue of CR Fashion Book is taking thing to the next level. Anna Cleveland covers the fashion bible, not only dressed in the textile, but also sporting a frayed patch over her eye, mimicking a lush lash look. While the exaggerated look was meant to emphasize “character,” a running theme in the issue, this one might be strictly editorial. [Fashion Gone Rouge]
We love to spritz on a little Givenchy before a big night out, but if you’re exploring London, there’s a new way to experience the brand’s scents. Hotel Café Royal is serving up a slew of new cocktails inspired by the L’Atelier de Givenchy perfume line. Crafted by The Club at Café Royal mixologist Tiziano Tasso, the cocktail menu includes Cuir Blanc, a Martini with Siberian pine needle extract, and Oud Flamboyant, which calls for the less exotic Japanese whisky plus mandarin juice. Cheers! [Eater]
DreamDry might be branching out beyond beauty! The blow dry bar linked up with Jonathan Adler to create a candle that blends sparkling champagne, pink grapefruit, raspberry, French cassis, violet leave, rose petals, crushed sage, crisp mint, and grape leaf. Don’t go looking on the web for the ambiance enhancer, as it will be exclusively sold at its spaces in New York and Chicago. You won’t have to wait long either; the candle will be priced for $42 – a little bit of luxury to light up your day or evening! [WWD]
Smashbox snapped up a serious upgrade, as its Los Angeles studio completed a year’s worth of renovations in partnership with Industrial Color Brands. Not only does the studios have space for shoots, but the refreshed space now includes added powers, custom-designed makeup tables, and even a café! So when can we book a shoot? [WWD]
We’ve seen our fair share of dry winter skin this winter, but now Bare Minerals is back with a fresh formula to soothe your skin. The new Complexion Rescue bounces the alphabet creams back with a refreshing gel cream formula that hydrates instantly, has buildable tinted coverage in 10 shades (so far), and has added SPF to keep the skin safe when you step out! It’s already become a major everyday must for us! [Styleist]
Aura Friedman‘s artistic approach to hair color has been her calling card since her start. After she was named best colorist in Miami Beach by Allure in 2000, her move to the Big Apple sent her straight to the runway with the likes of Peter Som as well as behind the haute hair hues of M.I.A., Lady Gaga, Sky Ferreira, and Molly Sims — just to name a few. Glam caught up with the celebrity colorist as she paints a series of sultry shades for her clients, including the legendary Lauren Hutton, while finding her inspiration close to home and even prepping for an upcoming shoot.

Beauty Buzz: Lea Michele Opts for a Chop, Kendall Jenner’s Estee Lauder Ads Unveiled, and Suave Wants Everyone’s Strands Satisfied
Say goodbye to Lea Michele’s long locks! The Gleek shared a snap from the set with Becca Tobin, sporting a bold a bob with flipped ends – perfectly apt for Rachel Berry. Though the Twitterverse approved of Michele’s new look, the look was only temporary, as one of the show’s writers, Jess Meyer, offered photographic proof that the actress’s mane was still the same. Maybe she’ll opt for the chop when the show finally wraps? [Refinery 29]
Ok, Kendall! The young megamodel unveiled her first video spot since her start with Estee Lauder, and she kinda killed it! The elder Jenner struck a pose and fluttered her lengthy lashes with the help of the brand’s new Little Black Primer, which helps pump up the volume of any mascara applied afterwards or worn along for a more natural look. Lush lashes are now at the top of our spring must-haves! [InStyle]
There’s always inspiration for fresh hairstyles, but attempting to achieve them can leave you a little disappointed – Suave Professionals is having none of that! But that’s not all, as the brand will also offer an array of style options that they can easily pull off and will last through the day. Is hair nirvana in our future? We say yes! [WWD]
Most of us grew up envying the glamour of the dolls we played with, but there may be big changes ahead. Sonia Singh’s Tree Change Dolls Tumblr chronicles the transformation of Barbies, Bratz, and more from glamazons to the girl next door by painting their faces and even re-fashion their clothing for a more realistic appearance that would appeal to moms and impressionable young girls. Hey, everyone has to take off their makeup sometimes! [Pop Sugar]
Beauty Buzz: Brooklyn Decker Bags a Bob, L’Oreal Gets Twiggy With It, and Aussie Ditches the Hair Drama
Some short styles take serious consideration, but others can be just as cute if they were just a whim, especially if you’re Brooklyn Decker. The model turned actress took to Instagram to show off her shirt that benefits English in Mind Haiti foundation, only acknowledging the new cut afterwards, “PS- yes I chopped my hair off.. thank you @ronacolor @joseph_michael54 #lukeoconnor.” The bob squad is getting stronger by the day! [People]
Kirsten Dunst isn’t the only one with a covetable coif, as L’Oréal Professionnel announced Twiggy be the latest British Beauty to become its UK brand ambassador for its new Majirel High Lift products. The iconic model follows in the footsteps of Alexa Chung who is the current face of the brand’s Inoa range, and Twiggy hopes to “inspire women to be confident in their personal style and never be afraid of trying something new.” With all the new arrivals, it can be hard to pick up the problems at the salon. But the brand has partnered with StyleSeat to offer access to their mane musts, appointments, and more! [The Telegraph]
There’s sure to be a few bumps in the road on the journey to loving our hair, and luckily we’re not alone. Aussie partnered with Graydon Sheppard, aka the star of the $h*t Girls Say series, for a video about all of our hair woes from keeping frizz at bay, to keeping our coif day at the pool, to worrying about leaving our hot tools on. As we tend to run late when our locks aren’t looking right on a weekly basis, everyone can share their #HairProbs and find solutions with the brand’s new Total Miracle 7-in-1 range to help you #DitchtheDrama.
