It is National Lipstick Day! In celebration of the non-official, but still wonderful holiday, we here at Glam have tapped into the most iconic lip trends from the age of the silent film to now. We paid homage to some of the most famous lip looks today, as well as to the original divas who have made them iconic.
Even if you’re on a vacation, your skincare shouldn’t be. The sun, pool water, and surf can unfortunately leave your skin…intoxicated. Glam chatted up Canyon Ranch Facialist Bernie Williams after snagging an Environ Ultimate Vitamin Therapy Facial aboard the Celebrity Summit (which left us glowing, literally). She shared a few quick tips on how to ensure that your skin looks great from ship to shore:
Slather on the Sunscreen – Sunscreen becomes top priority when walking on the top deck where the water reflects the sunlight and UV rays. Aside from saving yourself the pain of a bad burn, slathering on a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every 2 hours will keep aging at bay. “[It] is going to keep your skin looking younger for longer and it’s going to prevent pre-mature aging, which is a big problem that we have,” Williams said. “We can’t stop aging, but we can slow and reverse premature aging.”
Amass Moisture – Just because you’re floating on a body of water doesn’t mean it’s good for you. The combination of salt water, sun, and air conditioning can dehydrate skin cells, so maintaining that moisture balance is essential. Drinking lots of water will keep you hydrated but applying moisturizer will keep it from escaping. “You want to make sure you’re using a day and night cream so you’re getting that hydration and feeding [the skin],” she said.
Exfoliate Your Face – Regardless of what you use to slough off the dead skin, don’t forget to pack it in your bag! Regularly exfoliating will help maintain healthy cell turnover as well as keep your glow going at every port. Plus, it ensures all of your other skincare products sink in as they should. “The dead skin cells create a layer on your face and that prevents those products from penetrating into the skin,” she said. “It’s useless to have these wonderful products if they can’t get through that barrier.”
Top It Off with Toner – The trick is to swipe on toner after cleansing to balance and protect skin when it is most vulnerable. “The toner is there to help protect your skin after you’ve cleansed because you remove the acid mantle from the skin,” Williams explained. “When you remove the acid mantle, you open yourself up to germs and bacteria and outside pollutants, so that’s a protective pH coating so your acid mantle comes back into balance.”

“Hot town, summer in the city…” and keeping a beauty look becomes a bigger chore than it’s worth. By the time I step down into the subway in the morning, not only do I want to turn around and head to the nearest shower, most of my makeup has melted off. While primers and powders help, nothing seemed to stand up to the power of my sweat.
That is until I got a glimpse of Laura Mercier’s new Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide. It blurs imperfections for a seamless application that you can easily build upon. The fluide comes in 24 color-true shades with a bi-phase formula that activates fresh pigment with every use. But what makes it a summer must-have is the sweat and humidity proof formula that leave a matte finish. After all, shiny is the worst thing you can call someone with oily skin. You can power up your look with primer prior to application for a fresh face that will stay put well after the sun goes down.

We can’t stop talking about Louboutin’s newest launch, and with good reason! His seductive shoes are getting in on the mani game as well.
By now, everyone’s seen the Rouge Louboutin lacquer paired with the designer’s Ballerina Ultima, a stilettoed slipper he fashioned for David Lynch’s Fetish exhibit–and the rest of his lacquer collection will receive a similar treatment. In lieu of spiked ballet slippers, the fresh heels will be an ode to manicures with acrylic-like tips sprinkled on top of pumps and booties in hues of silver, gold, and his signature red.
The stunning shoes shouldn’t be a surprise, as the designer has always had show-stopping ideas thanks to his background in performance art. In a video for Style.com, he noted that showgirls, such as the ladies of Folies Bergère where he worked in the ‘80s, have been his long-time beauty icons. “There’s one thing about showgirls and performers in general, it’s the transformation of a woman to another woman, which is almost like a bird of paradise,” he explained in the clip. And in this case, a high-shine manicure mimics the flashy feathers as the showgirls step on stage! Talk about a new way to take the spotlight!
Haven’t seen the video yet? Take a look at the clip below:
If you’re considering a big chop this summer, make sure to pick a cropped do that’s right for you. Our words of wisdom: Know your options, pick the look that works with your style and personality, and then learn how to style it. Here are three to consider.
The Playful Pixie
What it is: This messy style works off the “perfection through imperfection” theory, meaning the messier the better. The playful pixie is ideal for the girl with an edgy, contemporary sort of style who isn’t afraid to stand out and turn heads. Its jagged and angular aesthetic adds sharpness to a rounder face.
Who has rocked it: Miley Cyrus, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Lawrence
How to get it:
1. Start by rubbing Garnier Fructis De-Constructed Pixie Play Wax between your palms and apply it from root to tip. This gives hair control and structure without stiffness.
2. To get piecey definition, rough up your hair between index finger and thumb for lots of texture. Style it in multiple directions.
3. Spray Garnier Fructis Texture Tease for long-lasting hold and protection against humidity without stickiness or residue.
Short and Classy
What it is: This short do looks polished and pretty—it boasts longer layers and a softer sort of appeal than the playful pixie. Shiny and sleek strands are styled with a side part for a more subdued, professional look. This classy style works with all face shapes.
Who has rocked it: Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Hudson, Emma Watson
How to get it:
1. Start by rubbing Garnier Fructis De-Constructed Pixie Play Wax between your palms and apply it to hair.
2. Use a comb to make a side part. Then comb it down, tucking longer layers behind your ears.
3. Spray Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray to tame any flyaways and add weightless shine.
The Curly Crop
What it is: Girls with curls can rock a cropped do too! This fun hairstyle calls for more volume on top so ringlets fall casually over the forehead. This free-spirited style is ideal for curlicue lovelies who like a chic but natural look.
Who has rocked it: Solange Knowles, Keri Russell, Audrey Tautou
How to get it:
1. Section off damp hair and add Garnier Fructis Style Curl Sculpting Cream Gel to locks. This 24-hour holding formula de-poofs ringlets, preparing them for styling with intense nourishment.
2. Shape your style by scrunching your curls as they air-dry or while you blow-dry them with a diffuser.
3. Once hair is dry, add high shine to your cropped curls with Garnier Fructis Brilliantine Shine Spray.

Clé de Peau Beauté is covering all the bases, quite literally. On the hunt for a scent that is both classic and modern? Look no further than perfumer Francis Kurkdjian‘s new men and women’s fragrance, Pluriel. It’s the summer of drastic hair changes, and while many celebs went for shade switches, some opted for a new style. Initially, we were a bit skeptical about bangs being a new summer trend (nobody likes their hair sticking to their forehead…), but we immediately changed our minds when we saw these celebs rocking the ‘do.
We were instantly taken when we spotted Blake Lively showing off pastoral perfection on the cover of Vogue. But our eyes were drawn to her windswept strands, which were carefully crafted by Oribe himself for the Jackson Hole, Wyoming shoot. Drawing inspiration from the rustic set, he opted for effortless waves that you can easily snag at home. “Whatever natural movement you actually have in your hair is your individual wave pattern,” he explained. “Don’t try to force a different texture with a curling iron; you can, however, enhance your natural wave with products that encourage texture.”
Oribe started by washing Lively blonde locks with his Signature Shampoo before deep conditioning it with his Signature Moisture Masque. He then fired up the blow dryer, going against the grain of the hair to add texture and body. Oribe then spritzed the Soft Dry Conditioner Spray throughout her hair and then added a layer of the Dry Texturizing Spray at the crown to create more shape so the tresses can have natural separation and fullness for the final cover shot.
Inspiration is everywhere. So while the rest of us were throwing our deodorant into our gym bags and just using it, Marc Jacobs decided to model a foundation stick in the everyday necessity’s packaging. The result is a travel-friendly, easy to use foundation stick, which is a part of his fall collection. He has now saved the millions of women who have experienced a broken foundation bottle after a long flight. Thank you, Marc! [Refinery 29]
Climate change is a bummer, and artist Catherine Young will agree. She has decided to bottle up eight scents of things that we will eventually lose: Coasts, Coffee (no, please!), Honey, Wine, Eucalyptus, Peanuts, Ice, and Hardwood trees. Called The Ephemeral Marvels Perfume Store it was created in partnership with Givaudan, which is known for its commitment to environmental sustainability. As we mourn the eventual demise of these things we love, we can at least wear them as our scents. What might Ice will smell like? [Fast Company]
Our hair deserves only the best. So Kérastase‘s collaboration with former A.P.C. designer, Vanessa Seward, for a small collection of gold hair accessories is some seriously good news. Seward was reportedly inspired by Kérastase’s Couture Styling Collection and also her infatuation for gold accessories. Sounds like a woman after our own hearts. Get your hands on these limited edition accessories before someone else whisks them away! [Glam Inbox]
If blondes truly have more fun, looks like Lauren Conrad is about to have a whole lot more of it. The bride-to-be has debuted her newly colored, platinum blonde locks on her Instagram with the caption: “Things are getting real blonde around here…” Her hair, styled in gorgeous, loose waves, is significantly lighter than her original dirty blonde shade. Hair envy begins now! [GlamBlush]
Watch out Sephora! Pharmacies offering cheaper products are growing competition, especially in Europe where the shelves are increasingly being stocked with organic products with a more forgiving price tag. Head of L’Oreal, Jean-Paul Agon says, ”Pharmacies are a place where people go regularly, where the pharmacist’s advice is well regarded and the value for money proposition of the brands they sell is appreciated by consumers.” While that may be true, we’ll still be hitting up Sephora on the regular. [WWD]
We’re used to seeing Gisele Bündchen glammed up and gorgeous in Victoria’s Secret Angel mode, but her latest campaign is a complete 180°! The Brazilian model stars in Sonia Rykiel’s Fall ad campaign, completely sans makeup!
The new campaign is just another sign that fresh faces are here to stay for fall. The look became a big runway staple for both the spring and fall seasons. And we’re personally psyched to see more industry insiders embracing all the things that make them unique and, in their own way, #flawless.
