Intercos Taps Top Beauty Trends for Its Latest Innovations

By  April 18, 2014

intercos-top-beauty-trends

Intercos has restructured its company to make way for its newest launches with color schemes that paired up perfectly with the runway’s top trends. Its trend forecast has seen the world’s runways to craft creative ways to rock the hautest looks of the season.

For its Fluid Trance, the beauty brand looked to the wet, mirrored look that set spring up. With liquid-effect powders, roller ball applicators, and sponge-on large pencils in electric shades of aqua, violet, and pink, the new makeup musts tap into looks from spring runway shows, like the dampened locks of Herve Leger and Yigal Azrouel and glossy lids at Derek Lam and Alexander Wang.

Intercos’ Nomadic Luxe seemed straight from Mara Hoffman’s signature beauty aesthetic with earthy metals. Seventies influences take form in haute hues like burned copper and cracked gold for loose powders with intricate designs and a stamp-on tattoo pen.

Beautiful Illusion’s mostly muted palette was designed to enhance and play with the face’s natural contours. It includes Double Usage mascaras and pencils, which were inspired by no-makeup makeup looks that came courtesy of BCBGMAXAZRIA (for both seasons), Elizabeth and James, among others.

Though the brand cited Legos, cartoons, and neon lighting as inspiration for its Live Animation batch of hair chalks and lipsticks, it captured the candy colors that celebs have started rocking in their tresses. While most shows strayed away from the intense pops pigments, The Blonds and Rag & Bone found ways to electrify their ladies.

Regardless of which buckets you want to fall into, it looks like Intercos has found new ways to try on these trends.

You Don’t Have To Use Your Hands – Advanced Face Cleaning For Everyone

By  April 18, 2014

Advanced-Face-Cleaning-For-Everyone

Your hands are strong, beautiful and capable of many things. Your hands are awesome. They are also dirt magnets that should be kept away from your face at all costs, if you want to avoid acne. This is something I’ve known for years, but haven’t always been good about. Back when I was a teenager, the most popular facial cleaning agents were by the Buf Puf brand (PS: I didn’t know those face scrubbers were made by 3M and that makes me re-evaluate everything I’ve believed about skincare). Now we’re in an inspiring era of facial cleansing. There are face brushes that spin and vibrate and pulsate. There are devices that you can buy from your neighborhood drugstore, or online only from an exclusive purveyor. There are magical sponges that disintegrate over time and use, there are products that will make you reconsider the role of silicone in your daily life. Allow me to expand your face cleansing horizons. These are a few of the devices and innovations in skincare that may deserve room on your bathroom counter:

1. Clarisonic – Clarisonic is arguably the leader of the skincare device pack, and for good reason. They’re amazing. With a brush head for every skincare issue – from deep pore cleansing to acne care and beyond, a Clarisonic is a healthy skin investment no matter what.
2. Foreo Luna – In the grand scheme of at home facial cleansing devices, the Foreo Luna is the cool new kid at school. It looks like nothing else on the market (well, nothing commonly used for skincare purposes). It makes bold new promises about skin cleansing and keeping bacteria at bay. The price isn’t cheap but with the kind of buzz the Luna’s getting, it’s in line to be the next Clarisonic.
3. Pulsaderm–The Pulsaderm doesn’t spin, it pulses. And therein lies the difference. The pulsation, combined with the concave shape of the device’s brush bristles, promise to cleanse the crevices and contours of your face like never before. Pulsaderm also offers silicone and microdermabrasion sponges, as well as a makeup sponge for applying BB creams and foundations.
4. Shiseido Facial brush – Of course, facial cleansing sans hands is nothing new and venerable Japanese beauty brand Shiseido has been heightening the foaming facial cleanser experience for years. No spinning or pulsing or vibrating here, just soft bristles and time honored tradition.
5. SpaSonic – For a more affordable, battery powered version of the sonic spinning brush, check out the SpaSonic. They don’t currently make brushes for specific skincare needs, but they do make a pumice and sponge attachment for applying serums.
6. Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge With Bamboo Charcoal – On the non-motorized tip, there are some exciting skincare cleansers that keep your hands away from your skin. The Boscia cleansing sponge is made from the Asian Konjac root, which promises to absorb impurities. Bamboo charcoal is used to purify the skin and works as a natural antibacterial agent.

Day in the Life: Laurice Rahme, Founder of Bond No. 9

Glam check in with Bond No. 9‘s founder, Laurice Rahme as she navigates distribution deals, celebrates her latest launch, Hudson Yards, and plots the notes of the next fragrance in her NYC-inspired line — all while juggling an iPad, Blackberry, phone, and coffee. Here, Rahme shares her packed schedule:

6:30AM: I start my day with 20 minutes of meditation to get centered.
6:50AM: Begin yoga to breathe flexibility into my body and mind.
8:00AM: Read The New York Times, it is my bible; I read it every day. I must know what is going on in the city that I am infusing with fragrance. I also like to read WWD, It offers great articles for all aspects of my life.
8:30AM: Grab my Blackberry and iPad and head downtown to our offices on Bond Street. I never leave home without my Blackberry; I am always available for my team and we are in constant contact.
9:30AM: Grab a cappuccino, extra dry, from The Smile
10:00AM: Greet my team at our flagship boutique on Bond Street. We all share the same space, the same ideas and the same goal without barriers where we are surrounded-immersed really-by product and one floor up by our sales staff and customers all the time.
10:30AM: Conference call with Dubai
11:00AM: Meeting with Saks Fifth Avenue to discuss upcoming public appearances nationwide.
12:30PM: Lunch with an editor from The New York Times at Ilili to discuss Bond’s upcoming launches.
2:00PM: I head back to 9 Bond Street to the creation table to work on our next scent. You need or want as many as it takes for the scent to speak the language that the creator is envisioning. Many fragrances do not have very many notes, other have hundreds. There is no right or wrong. Creating a perfume is part science but it really, really is an art – the art of translating and emotion into a feeling. And like a painter, the artist or perfumer will choose as many layers and as many different techniques as he or she feels a necessary to express exactly what the vision is.
4:00PM: Call with Nordstrom and my team to discuss marketing efforts.
5:00PM: Press Event at the 9 Bond Street boutique to launch my newest fragrance.
7:00PM: Head uptown to Saks Fifth Avenue for Bond No. 9’s Fine Fragrance Happy Hour. It’s the biggest compliment to me when Bond No. 9 fans fall in love with the scent. We are very lucky in that our customers are very loyal and very, very emotionally and intellectually engaged with the brand. We have an intense dialogue with them during the event. They are passionate about New York, about the neighborhoods and about the craftsmanship of our perfumes. They love the luxury of unique philosophy, packaging, and fragrances. Because the brand is so unique we have as many male as female collectors. The customer gets to mingle, bond and get intoxicated by scents, champagne and of course chocolate covered strawberries!
8:30PM: I head home and continue responding to my team’s emails and phone calls. I’m usually at our Bond Street offices until 8PM unless, I have an event or I am traveling, every day is different because like New York, Bond is always fresh and new.
10:30PM: I turn my iPad, phone, and Blackberry off. And I watch the French News.
11:30PM: Before bed I enjoy reading books, I am currently reading Freud on Religion

Don’t Be Shiny – Stay Matte and Beat the Heat With This Makeup Artist Trick

By  April 16, 2014

prevent-oily-skinDon’t let the random days of chilly temperatures and random snowflakes fool you – spring is definitely here and summer is on its way. Soon you’ll be packing away all of your sweaters and getting reacquainted with your sleeveless styles. Soon, instead of worrying about your skin being too dry, you’ll be worried about sweating all of your makeup off the second you go outside. No worries. It happens to the best of us. Sweltering hot weather can be an issue for makeup lovers. I often find myself sweating profusely and having a fear of my makeup dripping off my face, or transferring onto my light colored clothing in the sun. I’ve been known to tell folks that I feel like a chocolate ice cream cone melting in the sun. Celebrity makeup artist Cynde Watson calls it “sweating cocoa.” No matter what we call it, it isn’t cute.

You may think that translucent powder is a shiny woman’s best friend on a hot day, but that isn’t necessarily the case. Powder can sit on your skin’s surface and look cakey, as well as transfer easily onto your clothing (and even more embarrassingly, that of others). During a recent Skype interview where she educated me on the mattifying power of professional favorite makeup line Becca Cosmetics, Watson taught me a secret she first learned from Sam Fine. Here is how professional makeup artists recommend you use powder, to effectively set your look:

Step 1 – pull a piece of tissue apart so it’s super thin, one ply.

Step 2 – use that tissue to gently blot the skin. Press to absorb the oil in the T-Zone.

Step 3 – THEN you can apply powder, because you’re applying it to matte skin (instead of over a layer of oil).

Watson confessed that as an artist, powder isn’t one of the first tools in her arsenal against the greasies. You can insure that your look stays matte by laying down the right foundation. It all begins with a killer primer. Watson sold me on Becca Cosmetics Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, which can be used over or under foundations, on eyelids as primer, or on lips as mattifier. I love a good beauty all-rounder. I’m happy to report that I used Becca’s Priming Perfector on a recent 80 degree day and it stood up to the test! No melted chocolate ice cream, no sweating cocoa, no makeup transference. Yes, I got sweaty in the sun but my makeup didn’t budge. This is a movement I can get behind! I plan to stay matte and beat the heat by using primer, blotting my situation when needed, and above all else staying hydrated in the spring-into-summer heat so I don’t melt away.

What are your best tricks and tips for staying matte?

Zoe Kravitz Becomes A Blonde Babe

By  April 16, 2014

zoe-kravitz-blonde

It seems everyone went a bit blonder for Coachella, as Zoe Kravitz is the latest to snag a lighter ‘do.

The multihyphanate debuted her new cut, color, and bangs over the weekend during Coachella, even taking to the stage during the festivities. Kravitz really put the look on display during Jimmy Choo’s CHOO.08 event with a textured twist, posing with Solange in nearly matching red-hot ensembles.

She joins fellow boho babes Vanessa Hudgens and Kylie Jenner, who also opted for lighter locks over the same weekend. Looks like Jared Leto’s amazing ombre is breeding a bevy of ballayaged babes!

While the blonde is certainly a bold and beautiful move, we can’t help but wonder if there might be a candy color in her future as well. What do you think of Kravitz’s fresh look?
