Beauty Buzz: Isaac Mizrahi’s Makeup Madness, Pixelated Hair Pigments, ODLR’s Extraordinary Posthumous Perfume

The beauty bug has bitten Isaac Mizrahi! The designer will add a makeup and skincare line to his repertoire when both hit QVC on February 9. Called True Isaac Mizrahi, prices for the makeup and skincare will range from $10 to $68. The skincare collection is infused with CoQ10, green and white teas, Vitamins A and E, and marine algae to ensure a smooth canvas for the makeup, which he partnered with True Cosmetics to create. Clearly, Mizrahi didn’t want to start slow. “We’re not dipping a toe in the water, we’re jumping in the lake,” he explained. “And one of my goals as a designer has always been to get my customer to look in the mirror the right way. I don’t want her to buy this because it’s a big fantasy, but because she will look in the mirror and think she looks good.” [WWD]

We’re officially bored with balayage, over ombré, and now consider pastels passé!  But we’ve already found a new haute hair trend to hop on this spring: xpresionpixel. It’s a new technique developed by hair colorists Jose Luis Almedral, Marco Antonio Restrepo, and Jorge Cancer that recreates a pixelated effect on the hair. While we see vibrant options ahead for the season, we can even see this trend taking off with subtler, more natural shades. Now to find a salon in the city that can pull it off… [BuzzFeed]

Though the fashion world is still reeling from the loss of the legendary Oscar de la Renta, his legacy lives on not just in fashion, but also in beauty. His latest fragrance will hit stores in April before tolling out to the rest of the world in June. From the flacon to the name, Extraordinary is a sparkling spring scent that has his elegant touch in every aspect. Fragrance fans and ODLR devotees can expect a blend of citrus, neroli oil, plush peonies, and warm woods. As Michele de Bourbon, senior vice president of fragrance sales and marketing explained, “[It’s] very long lasting, very qualitative, and [leaves] a great trail of sparkle and surprise. You almost feel pink, but in a sophisticated way.” We’re practically blushing with delight! [WWD]

We may be stuck in a coif conundrum now, but in a few years we’ll find our signature hairstyle. A recent study conducted by a hair transplant group called Crown Clinic found that ladies find their favorite hair when they’re 32 while the guys wait until the age of 39! As Glamour surmised, by that age most are less likely to worry about the opinions of others and work with what they want. For now, play on, kittens. [Glamour]

While we’re still talking tresses, Pantene’s signature strand savers are getting a serious upgrade for 2015. After adding antioxidant technology to their shampoos last year, the brand is infusing its conditioners with Histidine (not histamine), a protein that penetrates the strand’s shaft, rebuilds from the inside out, and  removes mineral impurities from the water for shinier, healthier hair. Olivia Palermo Nails a New Look for Ciaté

Olivia Palermo never leaves home without a coat of red polish, but now the style star is opening up to more color thanks to Ciaté.

Palermo has been named the brand’s creative director where she will add her signature touch to the brand and curate four makeup and nail collections to celebrate Ciaté’s foray into color cosmetics through spring 2016. Palermo’s preppy experimentation made her a must for the brand, working closely with the brand’s chief executive officer Charlotte Knight. “I’ve been involved with the colors, packaging, marketing, the formulas and working very closely with Charlotte to make sure that everything is to the detail of how I like it,” Palermo told Women’s Wear Daily. “Everything is a learning process and educating yourself on beauty is different than fashion, but they both go hand in hand.”​

The first collection will hit shelves in May and include new nail technology that strengthens nails without losing its pumped up pigments. As for the makeup, beauty buffs can expect suede textured eye shadows, a face compact, and a lipstick infused with a collagen boost and will arrive wrapped in metallic gold and textured leather for a little added edge. 

With Palermo’s penchant for prints, we hope the brand will inspire a slew of chic nail art just in time for the summer!

Double Cleansing is Essential! Make This Korean Beauty Practice Part of Your World

The Korean daily skincare regimen has gotten a whole lot of attention for its many steps — as many as 10 to 12 if you’re counting. There are all kinds of cleansers and moisturizers and serums and sheet masks involved, but one of the steps that’s gotten the most attention is the practice of “double cleansing.” That’s the dermatologically recommended practice of washing your skin twice, the first time with an oil based cleanser to remove all your makeup and skin clogging gunk, second time with a deeper cleanser that won’t leave the skin feeling uncomfortable squeaky clean or stripped of all necessary nutrients.

Double cleansing has be one especially popular in beautycentric, densely packed urban cities where pollution and environmental irritation can be a factor. It’s proving to be popular for pretty much all skin types – even oily skin benefits, as oil attracts oil, so using an oil cleanser helps to purify those pores without drying out your face. If you’re a lady after my own heart and you tend to layer on the long lasting eye makeup products, you may even wind up triple cleansing – using a gentle eye makeup removing gel or cleansing water to start breaking down the product in that tender region and remove all traces of raccoon eyes, all before an all-over oil cleanser and face wash combo.

Effective double or triple cleansing begins with specific products for those needs. Here are some tried, tested and totally excellent skincare cleansers, the better with which to get your double or triple cleanse on!

Step One: Makeup removing cleansers or waters. You’re looking for products that are very gentle and safe for use close around the eye. You may wind up using a makeup wipe, cotton swabs or balls during this first step.
Recommended products: Mario Badescu Eye Make-Up Remover Gel, Lancôme Bi-facil Eye Makeup Remover, NARS Makeup Removing Water, Shiseido “Pureness” Cleansing Water.

Step Two: Oil based cleansing. In this step, you’re looking to remove foundation, powder and residue from the environment. You’re going to use an oil cleanser to gently dissolve stubborn eye makeup and heavy foundation.
Recommended products – Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil, Garnier Cleansing Oil, Belle Butters Cleansing Oil, L’Occitane Cleansing Oil.

Step Three: Regular cleanser.  Your goal here is to wash the oil away and cleanse your pores without totally stripping your skin.
Recommended products:  Soap and Clarity 3-In-1 Daily Detox Facial WashKiehls Calendula Deep Foaming Face Wash, Olay Normal Foaming Face Wash.

The rest of the Korean skincare regimen involves many steps beyond cleansing.  There are exfoliation products, moisturizers, serums and sheet masks to explore and indulge in! Eva Green may be a dame to kill for, but we believe it’s because of her hair color. The Penny Dreadful actress was named the new international spokeswoman for L’Oréal Professionnel’s upcoming Wet Domination campaign. While the detaoils are still under tight wraps, Green is excited about the new venture, stating, “As an actress hair is so important. You need a very good relationship with your hairdresser and together we create the hairstyles.” [The Telegraph]

Nonie Creme killed it on the beauty counter with Butter London, but she’s not stopping there. The beauty buff is ready to unleash her latest line, Nonie Creme Colour Prevails, on the masses with an array of 140 makeup musts, including nail lacquers with a grooved applicator to help paint the nails; a double-sided mascara that builds volume on one side and the other for length; and pigment-packed gelled eye shimmers – all wrapped in flirty, feminine packaging. “I wanted to make it pretty, approachable, girly and functional,” Creme explained. Schwarzkopf has been a salon staple for years, but the brand is getting a big boost from Claudia Schiffer. The beauty icon partnered with the brand 10 years to create the range that will hit Walmart stores exclusively in January. The collection consists of 74 mane musts formulated with the brand’s precious Ultîme-4-Complex of pearl essence, panthenol, refined protein, and keratin to ensure healthy hair with some serious shine. Beauty Buzz: H&M Will Bump Up Its Beauty Line, Meet the Man Behind Jared Leto’s Mane, and Georgia May Jagger’s Smeared Lip Service

While H&M is synonymous with cool collaborations and fast fashions, it beauty is something left to be desired. With the launch of & Other Stories in 2014, the retailer revelaed in its annual report that it’s looking to give itself a full beauty makeover with “a new and broad concept for make-up, body care and hair care with high quality value-for-money products in a specially produced design.” [Racked]

You might not know Chase Kusero, but his work has become the envy of Hollywood and beauty buffs alike thanks to Jared Leto. But the hairstylist to the A-List has been a mane maestro since his high school days of sweeping up hair and learning to blow dry. If you’re curious about all the hype his handiwork is getting, he says, “It was never the intention for him to end up on all these lists and best hair and with all this buzz. Now he’s just kind of accepted it, because what are you going to do? There’s nothing but good things being said about it.” [Fashionista]

Smeared lipstick usually a no-no, but Georgia May Jagger making a serious exception. The model posted a picture of her mussed up makeup, as part of a new social media campaign à la last year’s Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. But this time the hashtag is #SmearforSmear to raise awareness of the importance of pap smears to detect cancer early, according to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, who’s chief executive Robert Music explained, “”The response from the public has been fantastic and we already have women telling us #SmearForSmear has reminded them to book their overdue smear tests.” [Byrdie]

January is usually a month of repair from top to bottom, but Rene Furterer is giving spring strands a new lease on life in April. The brand has tapped into its heritage of using plant-based ingredients for its upcoming Absolue Kératine line that will include a Renewal Shampoo, Sublime Renewal Leave-In Cream, and Ultimate Renewal Mask to repair, rebuild structure, and smooth. As Rene Furterer’s vice president, salon business unit, Francois Viargues, explained, “We asked women what they wanted, and more and more they said ‘I want my hair from before.’  Before over-bleaching, coloring, flatirons and chemical treatments.” [WWD]

The winter chill (and any subsequent blizzards) have everyone wishing to be whisked away to somewhere much warmer. Escada‘s new Turquoise Summer scent was inspired by that sense of escapism and the iconic waters of Turks & Caicos, which is always the aim for its limited edition scent, and something that fragrance fanatics clamor for every year. Katy Perry is ready to take the Super Bowl stage from the top of her head to the tips of her toes. 2015 is shaping up to be an interesting year no matter your star sign. Many can spend years searching for their signature scent, but you shouldn’t limit yourself to one bottle. One tip to keep in mind: pair base-heavy fragrances with lighter, brighter scents for balance. According to Greta Fitz, the Director of Global Marketing for CLEAN Fragrances, “You can quickly increase the richness of a fragrance by layering [it with] a scent that is more background-heavy (vanilla, woods, musks), as well as create lighter renditions by layering fresh, fruity, or watery notes on top.” [Daily Makeover]

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has already added her touch to sleepwear and denim, and now she’s blossoming in the beauty sphere with her first scent.

The mega model linked up once again with Mark & Spencer for a fresh and mysterious fragrance, almost as a follow up to her line of lingerie that will hit shelves across the pond on January 28. Aptly called Rosie for Autograph, Huntington-Whiteley traveled to New York, London, and Grasse to perfect the formula, which was modeled after a summer morning in the British countryside. She even shot the campaign in her home county of Devon. “Shooting the campaign where I grew up was a natural choice, I felt it gave the perfect backdrop and really captured the delicate, truly beautiful sentiment I wanted for my fragrance,” she told The Telegraph. “It was very important to me when creating the fragrance that every aspect be close to my heart.”

As such, the British beauty would be remiss not to include a rose note, putting a centifolia rose at the heart of the scent. “As with my lingerie collection, I was drawn to the elegance and simplicity of the centifolia rose used in the fragrance,” she explained. “A rare, vintage style flower, it really encapsulates what this fragrance is about to me – a fresh yet mysterious scent, which feels luxurious and sexy.” To amplify the fragrance’s sensuality, Huntington-Whiteley added pepper, lemon, vanilla, and sandalwood notes – making it a must for Valentine’s Day.
