There comes a time in your beauty life, when you need to re-evaluate your skincare strategy. If your wardrobe has evolved to include designer labels and full retail prices but you’re still buying harsh, brightly colored face wash made for teens at the drugstore; it may be time for a product upgrade. Consider your face as your passport to the world, the thing more people will look at and admire than your clothing or your shoes. Isn’t it time to consider investment skincare? It may be costly but ultimately, it may be worth it. Let me upgrade you! Allow me to introduce you to Parisian brand Sisley, and their high end, luxurious and innovative approach to skin nourishment, cleansing and care.

I first experienced Sisley at The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas, where I was lucky enough to have a personalized facial and introduction to the brand. Founded in 1976 by Hubert d’Ornano,  the brand is a cult favorite around the world that’s rationed out to ardent fans who crave their creams and masques. The Sisley in Las Vegas is the first freestanding US boutique for the prestige brand. The ambiance is like being in a glamorous French spa – pristine, glittering, posh but warm and inviting all at the same time. Their most popular, highly coveted products include All Day All Year, an “anti-aging dayteam shield,” and the Sisley Global Anti-Age which tops out at $490 for a 1.7 oz jar.

The products are made with top of the line ingredients and advanced technology, and that doesn’t just stop at skincare. Sisley also has a best selling makeup line that promises to infuse beauty benefits into their use. Their So Intense mascara is intended to also be a treatment to nourish and grow your lashes over time. The Phyto Lip-Twists impart pigment, shine and penetrating moisture. Plus they come in bold bright Berry and Cherry – perfect for the holiday season!

Beauty Based On: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

By  November 26, 2014

Inspiration // 1. Neutral Shadow // 2. Green Liquid Liner // 3. Green Eyeshadow // 4. Brown Liquid Liner // 5. Volumizing Mascara // 6. Red Lipstick

Beauty inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places, such as a few aisles away with the toys. Case in point: this awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Action Figure that’s sure to be on every child’s wish list this year (maybe even ours). The plaything’s vibrant hues are the same as the holiday’s classic beauty color scheme, allowing you to try a range of looks from soft and subtle to bold and bright.

You can easily channel the Ninja Turtle’s classic colors without overwhelming the face during the holidays. For something more subdued, dust a neutral shadow, reflective of the turtle’s shell, from the lash line to the brow bone before lining the top lash with a rich, green liquid liner. Swipe on a few coats of volumizing mascara, and channel Raphael’s signature color with a red lip for a look you can rock almost anywhere.

If you want a more striking eye look, you can apply a deep green eye shadow on the lid and blend it up into the crease. Give your lashes a little extra oomph by lining the top lash line with a brown liquid liner before swiping on a few coats of mascara. For a bit more balance, you can press the red lipstick onto the lip with your finger for a softer lipstain that will last for hours.

Now, this is what we call turtle power.

Beauty Buzz: The Secret to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gams, Janelle Monae’s First Makeup Memory, and Chris Brosius’ New Scent Is Up In Smoke

By  November 26, 2014

We know Gwyneth Paltrow turns to pal Tracy Anderson when she needs to get her gams in gear but what about getting them to glow? The star spilled the secret during the opening party for her Goop pop-up shop in Dallas, saying, “Prtty Peaushun is my absolute secret weapon for the red carpet, for my legs. It makes your skin look amazing and really toned. It’s my secret!” We’ll take 10 bottles! [InStyle]

Janelle Monae’s love for CoverGirl goes way back! The songstress admitted her mother introduced her to the brand before The Electric Lady headed off to prom. But it was one mega model that solidified her loyalty to the makeup musts. She explained, “I looked at Tyra Banks as a young black girl as one of the faces of the brand, and thought, ‘If it works for her, it must work for me!’” [Byrdie]

This fall, Burberry Make-Up is making it all about the eyes. The beauty brand introduced five new products to the eye collection: two mascaras (Bold Lash Mascara and Curve Lash Mascara), two eyeliners (Effortless Kohl Eyeliner and Effortless Lash Eyeliner), and an Effortless Eyebrow Definer. The products are meant to “effortless create the illusion of a natural, larger eye” says Burberry Make-Up’s Artistic Consultant Wendy Rowe. [Glam Inbox]

The man behind Demeter’s fragrance catalogue has returned to the fragrance counter with Do Not Ask Me Why 406. The rich, slightly floral fragrance evokes Christopher Brosius’s interpretation of opium smoke, based on his meticulous research on Charles Baudelaire’s writing on the substance. As he explained, ““I’m much more interested in the experience of scent — not just the pretty aspect. I’d been doing a little bit of research and seeing what I could come up with on a description [of the scent]. Based on that, I pieced this composition together.” [WWD]

Beauty Buzz: Donald Robertson Does Art Basel, Rob Lowe Reaches for the Fountain of Youth, and Fiona Stiles’s Thanksgiving Travel-Sized Necessities

By  November 25, 2014

Donald Robertson is adding his kiss of approval on a vintage 1974 Cadillac El Dorado to kick off his traveling art exhibit which will make its way from Smashbox Studios in L.A. on November 29 to Miami’s Art Basel. There are stops scheduled along the way so you can check out the pimped out ride first hand and snag the signature print on a complimentary Smashbox Legendary Lipstick in Bing. Follow the tour via the #BingtoBasel hashtag. Muah! [Glam Inbox]

Rob Lowe still looks amazing at 50, and now he’s spilling his secrets via a new skincare for men! Profile Performance Men’s Grooming will be released this spring after it’s been in the works for five years and will feature an easy regimen to maintain youthful skin. As he himself explained, “Most guys find [skincare] too complicated—rightfully so—or feel like they’re using their wife’s or girlfriend’s stuff, which none of us want to do. I have a very simple, easy regimen I do everyday that’s not fussy and not complicated because I hate doing stuff like that.” Well we have our next Father’s Day gift on lock! [InStyle]

Regardless of tomorrow’s weather forecast, we’ve all got travel plans. Whether by plane, train, bus, or car, there are a few beauty essentials makeup maestro Fiona Stiles says no one should skip. Ponaris nasal emollient is a must to keep germs at bay; Kahina Travel Basic Argan Oil to hydrate hands and face on long flights; and Soapwalla Deodorant Cream to stash in your carryon for top offs during long flights. We’re placing overnight orders ASAP! [Instyle]

When we initially smelled Versace’s Eros, we had to resist the urge to spritz it all over ourselves; we couldn’t get enough. Now the fashion house has answered our request for a more feminine version of cologne we clamored for. The scent, slated to hit shelves in December, bottles Sicilian Lemon, calabrian bergamot and pomegranate on top; a heart of lemon flower, sambac jasmine absolute, jasmine infusion, and peony; and a drydown of sandalwood, ambrox, and musk. It seems the god of love strikes twice! [WWD]

Makeup mavens are heading to the West Coast to explore Urban Decay’s new wonderland, a.k.a. its first store. The OC-born brand has set up shop at Fashion Island in Newport Beach where everything is painted purple and silver. The space itself boasts a slew of makeup stations for swatching, a digital video wall, a lounge with a coffee bar, and a photo booth. While we Big Apple beauty buffs will have to wait a while for a flagship of our own, another shop is slated to open across the pond in London! [LA Times]

Rihanna Returns to Fragrance Counters In Time for Holidays

By  November 25, 2014

rihanna-rogue-love-2It turns out, we didn’t have to wait so long to get our hands on Rihanna’s new fragrance.

Just in time for the holiday season, Rogue Love has is now on shelves globally with prices ranging from $39-$69 for the three varying sized bottles. The perfume itself is a bright citrus floral to join Riri’s roster of succulent scents that include fan favorites like Nude and Reb’l Fleur. Fresh notes of mandarin, berry, peach, jasmine, honeysuckle, coconut, and vanilla swirl together to evoke the swoon of first falling in love.

With a possible Puma deal in the works we can already see the songstress and her navy accessorizing their athleisure wear with the sweet scent through the spring and summer.

Beauty Buzz: Vanessa Hudgens’ Winter Tress Trifecta, Soap & Glory Gets the Boot(s), and Charlotte Tilbury’s Supermodel Makeover

By  November 24, 2014

beauty-buzz-11-21-14We’re always on the hunt for hair changes on our favorite celebs, but Vanessa Hudgens broke the mold of the hair trends we’ve noticed by nabbing three at once! The star not only when back to her brunette shade but snagged a shaggy lob and a fresh set of fringe as well. The star debuted the look via Instagram just after stepping out of stylist Riawana Capri’s salon chair. Talk about a mane makeover! [People]

Boots is getting into the shopping season a little early! The British beauty retailer has just acquired quirky bath and body brand Soap & Glory from its founder and serial entrepreneur Marcia Kilgore. While we’re not sure what will happen to S&P, we have a feeling Kilgore isn’t done playing in the beauty aisle. As she told Women’s Wear Daily earlier this year, “Skin care is really where my expertise lies.” [WWD]

Charlotte Tilbury wants you to strike a pose with your favorite model-inspired look in honor of her new beauty look box, The Supermodel. Post your snap to Instgram by tagging the makeup maestro and adding the hashtag #CTSupermodel. 4 winners will be named each week on Tilbury’s Instgaram until December 19th and will receive the special set. You better work! [Glam Inbox]

We love nail art, but without much artistic skill and not time to sit at the salon, it’s a trend we don’t touch on often. But a new machine is slated to change the way we manage our manis. The Tat’z Nail’z System comes pre-programmed with 3,000 designs with 10 color choices each. All you need to do is apply the base coat and pre-print lacquer to protect your tips, place a finger inside the machine to receive a fresh look, and top it all off with a clear topcoat. Happy #ManiMonday, indeed! [The Huffington Post]

We’re still head over heels for our Artis brushes, and now it’s much easier for everyone to get their hands on them! The makeup musts have made their way to Net-a-Porter, making the sartorial site one of the first retailers to carry the line. The brand’s CosmeFibres pack three to 10 times more individual fibres in each brush, allowing for better application and blending. Have these shot up to the top of your holiday shopping list yet? Day in the Life: Dawn Hahn, Founder and CEO of Bloom Blow Dry Bar

By  November 21, 2014

Dawn Hahn‘s dream of a blow dry bar in her own backyard was destined to become a reality with her entrepreneur’s savvy style, “eye on the prize” perseverance, and ahead of the game smarts. She’s a Bay Area/Silicon Valley gal, after all, and thus no stranger to the start-up mentality of making ideas come to life.

As a resident of San Francisco’s up-in-coming West Portal area, a quaint neighborhood with boutique type businesses becoming more and more prevalent, Hahn was inspired to get in on the growing action by offering a place for pampering in her community. Hot hair was a point of passion for the visionary, and thus Bloom was born. With a chic interior and skilled staff, Bloom is a laid-back oasis for women in the southern section of San Francisco (where blow-dry bars are basically non-existent) whose locks need some love. With only a handful of chairs and a small, select team, the feeling in the room is like being part of a family…if your family were hair styling gurus with the ability to make you look like a model. Hahn is the backbone of it all, running her business with skill, but also a sense of humor. Here’s what her beauty-filled day looks like:

5:30 a.m. Up and off to the kitchen for my really large cup of French Roast and then jump back into bed with it. As I sip my coffee, I am checking appointment books for the day, reading emails, check online banking, update my to-do list.
6:30 a.m. Off to the salon, I am so lucky to have a 5-minute commute and a husband that drives me to work most of the time. Since we open early -7AM, Monday-Thursdays for the women headed to work, we get into the salon early to get our espresso machine set up, spa waters made, and everything ready to welcome the day’s customers.
7:00 a.m. After checking in with opening staff, I am usually out front of the salon, sweeping the front sidewalk and chatting with neighbors and other merchants opening their stores and restaurants, double checking the set up of salon and getting prepared for the day ahead and often the week to come.
7:30 a.m. Making myself another coffee, greeting customers and talking with our fun front desk staff, I love this part of my job! We have really great staff, they are young, energetic, hard working and oddly, we seem to have hired a group of people that are really really fun and funny!
8:00 a.m. We are starting the 2nd group of morning blowouts, and busy taking care of customers.
9:00 a.m. Once we are up and going, I head to our cute and super tiny office to make calls, do banking, pay bills, run payroll, work on marketing plans, check shop consumable inventory, catch up with our salon manager Aaron, and we usually spend the next 15 minutes off topic and being silly and laughing about anything and everything. Did I mention my great staff?
10:30 a.m. Still trying to tackle the never ending to do list…
11:15 a.m. Pondering lunch, we have so many amazing restaurants in our West Portal neighborhood, and everyday we all struggle with which one to call in take out. We usually hit the Submarine Center which is the best sub place ever, or Squat and Gobble for huge yummy salads, or El Toreador, literally the best Mexican restaurant in SF.
12:00 p.m. Lunch! Usually I eat in the office, but I try to get out with girlfriends a couple times a week.
1:30 p.m. Running salon errands, buying fruit for our yummy spa waters, banking, post office, etc.
2:30 p.m. I try and sneak away during the day to go home and love up on my two little old dogs, Maya and Lola, they are ridiculously attached to us, and I like to check in and say hi.
3:15 p.m. The salon gets busier in the late afternoon, and its always nice to get back in the salon and work the front desk, help clean brushes, organize the styling stations, make customer coffee and teas and really just chat with customers, a lot of our customers are friends or community acquaintances, so getting to see them is a perk to this job for me. We have such a nice community and everyone knows everyone, related to someone, it’s really a village here.
4:30 p.m. This is the time of day that we turn up the music a little, most likely you will hear staff singing, and probably some dancing. When the blow-dryers are going and music going, the energy is great.
5:30 p.m. I start wrapping up my day and checking over the salon to be sure we are ready for the next day. I check the cash drawer for change, appointments for the next day, staffing for the day and pack up. We are open 7 days a week and 12 hours a day, so there is never a lot of time to reset for the next day.
6:00 p.m. I like to walk home if my feet aren’t killing me, and its not to dark, or my husband will come pick me up. We enjoy having dinner together or dinner out with friends. We are empty nesters now, so it’s all about us, our friends and quite frankly, our dogs!
8:30 p.m. You will find me in my pajamas curled up in bed with my computer and watching my favorite TV shows, I love Scandal, Walking Dead, and Homeland. This is my favorite time of day, just putting my feet up and relaxing. Reflecting on the day, feeling excited for the next day, I love my new business and life, so for now all is good for me.
9:30 p.m. Honestly, probably asleep! I don’t often make it to 9:30 these days … hah! Did I mention we are open 80 hours a week?!

Now You Can Snag Christie Brinkley’s Skincare Secrets!

By  November 21, 2014

christie-brinkley-skincare-launchWe’ve envied Christie Brinkley’s flawless skin for years, and now the iconic model letting us in on the magic formula by launching her own skincare range!

Called Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare, Brinkley collaborated with renowned dermatologist Doris Day to infuse the eight-piece vegan line with a proprietary Bio-Copper Complex to revitalize skin while providing protection from infrared solar rays. The range includes the Recapture Day + IR Defense Anti-Aging Day Cream, Recapture 360 Night Anti-Aging Night Treatment, Complete Clarity Daily Facial Exfoliating Polish, Refocus Eye + IR Defense Serum Infusion Eye Treatment, Uplift + IR Defense Firming Neck & Décolleté Treatment, Close Up Instant Wrinkle Smoother & Treatment, Close Up + IR Defense Skin Smoothing Primer Serum, and Complete Clarity Facial Cleansing Wash with prices ranging from $22.95 to $69.95. “It was very important to me that we formulated something that, as much as is possible, protected against future sun damage,” Brinkley told Women’s Wear Daily.

Don’t expect to see the turquoise and amber glass jars on department store beauty counters, as the Brinkley’s line is slated to make its debut on HSN in March before rolling out to Kohl’s later that month. Brinkley already had close ties to the network, as she worked with HSN’s chief merchandising officer Anne Martin-Vachon when both were with CoverGirl in 2005. “She has all sorts of stories, on everything from her line to her modeling career to her kids [Brinkley’s 15-year-old daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook, is also a model; both are represented by IMG], “ Martin-Vachon told the trad publication. “She has first-to-market technology in the line, which is a fair trade, eco-friendly line that doesn’t test on animals. And she is incredibly passionate about this line.”

This just marks the latest beauty venture for the model mogul,–she also has a wig collection for Hair2Wear and a signature scent, Believe by Christie Brinkley. It looks like beauty by Brinkley is taking over the world one counter (and network) at a time.
