Beauty Buzz: Khloe Kardashian’s Extensive Routine, Stephen Dimmick Gets Glossy, and Is Hayley Williams the Next Online Guru?

By  March 30, 2015

Beauty editors are known to have extensive routines with plenty of products (hey, we have to test-drive the latest launches somehow), but we’ve got nothing on Khloe Kardashian. In a recent interview with Into the Gloss, the reality star loves to get her makeup done, and even admitted she tends to double up on products including foundations, shimmer powder, lippies, cleansers, and even dry shampoos! [Into the Gloss]

Stephen Dimmick is bringing his makeup mastery to the sales floor with his first line, GlossiGirl. Geared for the grown woman who may be on the fence about trying certain trends, the Australian import will introduce a series of six lipsticks with cream and matte-satin hybrid finish in highly pigmented hues. As Dimmick explained, “I love the idea of those really dry, crunchy liquid lips that all those young lines have. Most women might like the idea of it, but they really don’t like it because it doesn’t feel good. I wanted it [Poison Apple] to be matte, but not Nineties matte or liquid matte. I went with more of a matte satin. So, it has a creamy emollience to it.” Beauty selections for the sophisticated set? Sign us up! [WWD]

First a MAC collection and now a channel of her own, Hayley Williams is a bonafide beauty buff! The Paramore frontwoman will star in her own web series on Popular TV called Kiss-Off. Williams will partner with makeup artist Brian J. O’Connor to replicate iconic looks from the likes of David Bowie and even interviewing musical acts to find out what inspired their look. As she explained, “I want to have other artists on the show, interview them about what inspires them and maybe how they found their look and what the process was for that.” [WWD]

Beyoncé’s back with a fresh batch of nail wraps with NCLA. After her first flawless collection sent everyone into a tizzy, the songstress paid homage to the Bey-hive with their own signature pattern, plus patterns that channel her “Blow” and “Haunted” videos. Needless to say, we’ll be sporting these ASAP! [Pop Sugar]

The no-makeup makeup trend shows no signs of slowing down, as its perennial line Nudestix is slated to hit the QVC airwaves in May. Created in partnership with her two daughters, Jenny Frankel developed the line to make everyone look like themselves – no makeup brushes required. “For my friends and me, brushes were extremely intimidating,” daughter Taylor said. “None of my friends know how to use them. We couldn’t do a smoky eye to save our lives. We wanted to look like ourselves, only better.” [WWD]

Moroccanoil is our go-to when it comes to moisturizing treatments, but the brand is branching out with a set of two dry shampoos: one for those with lighter locks and another for brunettes. The new mane must actually absorbs oil and features UV filters to keep follicles from fading in the sun, not to mention the brand’s signature scent infused in the formula. This is one tress trick we can’t wait to share! [InStyle]

Dove Wants You to Share #OneBeautifulThought

By  March 30, 2015

We all tend to nitpick when we’re looking in the mirror, but we never really think of how harsh our self-criticisms are and how much of an impact they can have. Luckily, Dove is bringing them out into the light to see them for what they really are and to inspire #OneBeautifulThought.

Dove France asked women on the street for their most personal thoughts about their bodies before they were invited out for a coffee. The coffee shop was staged with a pair of actresses who stepped into their shoes and said those criticisms out loud. The results prompted the women to reflect on how they see themselves, most noting that it’s not only horrifying and toxic, but one of the women said, “I hope my daughter never speaks to herself like that.” Another shared the women’s collective conclusion: “To like yourself is better. It’s as simple as that.” Good advice, indeed!

OPI Says to Say It with a Swatch!

By  March 27, 2015

At some point when we were growing up, we all tried to come up with our own secret language. But OPI’s making the concept much more visual–much to our delight–with its new Color Chat App.

The brand transformed 26 cult classic shades into corresponding letters of the alphabet to beauty buffs to speak with the nail polish drops. Simply type your word or message on the keyboard and send it to whomever you’d like. The receiver simply has to swipe the swatch to reveal the message beyond the sequence of OPI-approved swatches. The result is a visual representation of how beautiful language can be, especially when shared. As the swatch “A” explained in the brand’s new video, “We are a new language for everyone, because color is the universal language.”

Our only question is:

Soo Jo Park is L’Oréal Paris’s First Asian-American Ambassador

By  March 27, 2015

Soo Joo Park is on a roll! After becoming Redken’s latest mane muse, the runway regular was just chosen to represent L’Oréal Paris.

Park joins the ranks of other mega models to represent the iconic beauty brand, including Karlie Kloss, Lara Stone, and Doutzen Kroes. The brand made it personal by broadcasting the big news on her birthday with Park sharing a snap on Instagram wearing the brand’s #WorthIt hashtag tee. “I really couldn’t ask for a better present. I like that they really take pride in their spokespeople,” she told Style.com. “They have a personal relationship with all the people that they choose to represent the brand. I mean, to be alongside Jennifer Lopez, Lara Stone, Doutzen [Kroes]—not too shabby.”

It’s a big deal for both parties, as it’s not only her second beauty deal in less than a year, but she’s also the first Asian-American face of L’Oréal Paris. “It’s such an honor, but I also think the world is getting smaller and the globalization of commerce is influencing industries like beauty and fashion,” she said. “So to be the first to represent a global brand is a huge honor. But I don’t want to be just that one thing; I want to be the global ambassador.”

Congrats, Soo Joo, and happy birthday!

Beauty Buzz: Kim Kardashian Is Black in Black, Deborah Lippmann Says Skip the Soak, and Coola’s Set It and Forget It Spray

By  March 26, 2015

Bye, bye, blondie! Kim Kardashian has returned to her roots as she was spotted leaving a L.A. salon with little North in tow, of course. This comes on the heels of the release of her Elle France cover and spread with Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing with her lighter locks still in tact. We can only guess that the damage and major maintenance was too much to take (as it would for anybody), spaghetti strands anyone? [The Daily Mail]

Soaking our fingers in warm water is synonymous with a trip to the nail salon, but the added hydration may mess up your mani. According to Deborah Lippmann, the nail absorbs the water and expands, leading to an uneven application if the nail isn’t completely dry. As the mani master put it, “If you soaked your nails, you would need to wait until the nail plate is completely dry in order for it to constrict to its typical size—which no one really does—at which point it would be ready for polish application.” So don’t be afraid to speak up! [Teen Vogue]

Coola has a busy summer ahead! Aside from the brand’s collaboration with Tommy Bahama, it’s slated to move into makeup with a setting spray that will hit shelves in April. The formula combines aloe vera and cucumber to soothe, hyaluronic acid to hydrate, and, of course, and an SPF of 30 to keep skin protected. With summer on it’s way makeup mavens will sure to snap this up to keep their look on lock. [WWD]

Korres wants you to step into its apothecary with its latest line. The brand’s Modern Greek Apothecary taps into its homeopathic heritage with an array of pure daily essentials, such as deodorant, hand creams, soaps, lip butter, and even it signature Honey Base syrup (to soothe any throats still sore from the winter weather) – all infused with medicinal herbs and natural remedies to leave us not only looking good but feeling good as well. [Glam Inbox]

Nuance is also looking to nature infuse its most exotic fruits into our routines. Salma Hayek Pinault is introducing beauty buffs to Buriti Oil, to cleanse and nourish their tresses without stripping away moisture; Mamey Fruit, used as hair tonic to leave locks fuller and shinier; and Raw Honey, to retain moisture and restore luster to color-treated tresses – plus a few new skin essentials to keep you glowing! [Glam Inbox]

It seems everyone’s going green lately, as The Body Shop is introducing its new Fuji Green Tea collection that will hit shelves April 7. The range includes the usual bath and body fare to leave you feeling fresh and relaxed, but it also includes a Bath Tea that blends leaves and Epsom salts  that you can drop in the bath with its own infuser! Beauty Buzz: Kylie Jenner’s Feeling Blue, Lo Bosworth’s Nose Bling, and Give Your Follicles a Filtered Finish

By  March 25, 2015

Kylie Jenner’s clearly not afraid of a bold beauty look, but there’s one look she won’t go for. Though the teen loves to shake up her hair shade regularly, you won’t see her sporting pink or purple strands anytime soon.  As she explained, “I’d probably never go pink or purple [when it comes to my hair] because blue is my thing. Other than that, I’m extremely open to changing my style and trying different things.” [Style.com]

Thanks to lovelies like Rihanna and FKA Twigs, septum rings have become the piercing du jour for 2015. The latest lady to jump on the bandwagon: Lo Bosworth. The Hills alum and YouTube guru shared a snap of her new nose ring. One thing that she and fellow bling buddies like Katy Perry all share: an apology to mom. [Glamour]

Many stars are playing with pastel strands this spring, most of us are looking for something much subtler for our selfies. Luckily, Wella Professionals has a in-salon color line inspired by the perennial app, called Instamatic. It’s a demi-permanent color formulated with the brand’s Color.id to allow colorist to paint the pigment throughout the without bleeding into one another for a cool, customized look. #NoFilterNeeded [Refinery 29]

Sunscreen is an essential in every skincare routine, but a few brands would rather have your sip than slather to stay protected. While some foods and subsequent juices have antioxidants, it can’t replace your daily dose of SPF. As Joshua Zeichner, an assistant professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, explained, “Without rigorous, objective testing, I am hesitant to recommend any product. So long as you are using your sunscreen properly, as you would otherwise, I see no harm in drinking the water–with the exception of the harm it does to your pocketbook.” [Stylelist]

After months of anticipation, Jay Manuel’s HSN debut is nigh! In what is sure to be a spectacular, he’ll show off his eponymous collection, which includes 72 makeup must-haves to primp and perfect, plus innovative brushes and tools. Don’t worry, we’ve already created a wish list! [Glam Inbox]

We’ve always trusted Cricket to ensure that our strands stay stylish, but the brand is branching out further into tools with Beauty Hardware. The collection includes mani musts like cuticle pushers and nippers, eyelash curlers, brushes, tweezers, and even a skin tool extractor to safely bid goodbye to blemishes. Just don’t forget to keep it clean with a little bit of alcohol. [Glam Inbox]

Party Report: Boots Takes Over the Big Apple

By  March 25, 2015

THE PARTY: The Boots Beauty Experience

THE PLACE: Duane Reade Wall Street Flagship Store and The Bailey Pub

THE FARE: British Beef and Onions, Cheese and Onion Tarts, and more fare from across the pond.

THE DEETS: Boots staged a takeover of Duane Reade’s Flagship , complete with royal guards to guide editors through the many stations of the brand’s latest launches. As guests sipped and supped on UK-inspired fare, they could get shade matched for No 7’s Lift & Luminate Foundation, slather on the new Boots Botanics beauty buys, like the All Bright Radiance Balm, and receive a lip touch up with the new Shine & Tint Lip Gloss Stains.

But that wasn’t all: editors later made their way across the street to the pub for an acoustic set from Marina & the Diamonds. Songstress Marina Diamandis grew up next to a Boots and with the apothecary, and even used to wear the brand’s Moisture Drench Lip Color in Glam (natch). She gave the crowd a taste of her new album Froot with “Forget” and “Froot.” Consider the takeover mission accomplished!
