It seems everyone is switching up their shade this spring, even Michelle Obama.
The FLOTUS initially debuted honey-colored highlights at the International Women of Courage Award ceremony on Tuesday, but everyone got a good look at her new hue at BET’s Leading Women Defined Summit in Miami. Donning a printed wrap dress, she sat down with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts during the summit to discuss eating healthy and staying active as part of her Let’s Move campaign. She also took over her Instagram to share the details of her trip (and show off the new ‘do) as she went on to help families sign up for healthcare.
While the new look does come on the heels of her bold brows, it also bucks the Technicolor trend that Hollywood is having at the moment. Needless to say for the FLOTUS, a little change can go a long way!
Glam looked in on BOOM Beauty founder Cindy Joseph as she handles photo shoots, production and presentations for her cosmetics line — all while fitting in a little yoga in her foyer! Here, she shares the details and routines of her day:
||I am fully awake and enjoying my view as I contemplate my day. Each of my days are completely different. I might be flying to a location shoot, running my company, getting together with friends, or cleaning out a closet. I often have a mixed day between work, play, and social time.
||My only consistent routine is having a hot cup of English Breakfast Tea each morning.
||I sit on my bed and edit my weekly blog, Saturday with Cindy.
||I take time during each day to stop what ever I am doing and jump rope or do yoga in my foyer, or where ever I am. I don’t use special clothing or go to classes. I find if it gets too involved, I don’t do it.
||I grab something to eat. Today I have hot oatmeal with raisins and a banana.
||I must plan my wardrobe for a photo shoot that is taking place in my home. I’m on deadline to send a video and photos to my Paris Agency, Silver, in lieu of being there for a watch company casting.
||It’s time to shower, and prepare myself for photos using my pro-age cosmetics line, BOOM!
||The photographer and child model arrive for the in-home photo shoot. I spend time with the 4 year old so she gets comfortable with me for the shoot.
||Shoot with photographer Chuck Baker and model Sierra. We wrestle on the bed, read books, and eat raspberries. We get some great shots and then the Sierra and her folks take off.
||As Chuck and I eat lunch, we edit all of the photos to email to my agent in France right away.
||I lie on my couch to recharge my energy for a big Pro-Age BOOM! event hosted in a private home that evening.
||I start packing up BOOM! products for the event. I print out notes for my presentation. Once I am at my computer, I start corresponding with my business partner and associates, oversee production of products, shipping etc. I may talk to my agent, Patty Sicular owner of Iconic Focus model agency about go sees and bookings. I go through some customer service emails and basically run the company from my little 11″ MacBook Air.
||I primp myself for the evening’s BOOM! event. I love giving Pro-Age Revolution presentations and sharing the wonderful BOOM! skin care and cosmetics line I have created. To be in conversations with women of all ages about what is important to us (self esteem, caring for our health) gets my circulation revved up!
||I arrive at event location with my husband and relax and have dinner with the host and her husband.
||30 guests start to arrive and the party begins.
||I give a talk about women, beauty, and age, and do a presentation of my BOOM! products.
||I enjoy interacting and relating with all the guests while my husband is taking orders!
||Very rarely do I stay up this late. I am usually in bed by 9:30 or 10pm. This evening when we get home, we go straight to bed. I chat with my husband and cuddle, falling asleep in his arms.
Sorry blue, you might not be the shade of spring, as Ireland Baldwin’s the latest to go lavender!
On the heels of Nicole Richie’s new ‘do debut, the up-and-coming model unveiled the colorful coif Wednesday. Baldwin initially piqued her followers’ interest as she tweeted, “What’s next?” paired with a selfie of her wearing a towel around her shoulders. E! reported that the young model turned to Justin Anderson at the Chris McMillan Salon to the procure the “purp” that Baldwin shared in a series of snaps on Instagram.
But it looks like the new hair hue may be more work than what it’s worth, as Baldwin later tweeted that she might have to give up working out for the sake of her vibrant shade. “Purple hair and work out clothes really don’t go together,” she shared. Best of Luck, Ireland!
We love a flushed cheek and bold lip, but it’s easy for colors to clash when you’re on the go. Jodie Patterson is a woman who is capable of an infinite number of things. She’s a wife and mother of five children, she is the creator of luxe bodycare brand Georgia NY, and she is co-creator of DooBop, a site meant to capture the diversity and panache of New York City in an online shopping experience.
DooBop offers a unique voice in beauty by giving the customer exactly what they’re looking for. If you’ve got naturally curly hair and you’re seeking a sulfate free, silicone free or paraben free shampoo, there are categories just for you. Interspersed are interviews by legends in the beauty game like Keith Campbell, and Cynde Watson. You can shop on DooBop for Rihanna’s favorite body lotion, and Iman’s signature lip palette, and then click to read about Kerry Washington’s discoveries about life and beauty. And did we mention the free shipping and free samples? It’s all unusual and inspiring, and quite beautiful indeed.
We caught up with Patterson to get some perspective on DooBop – and we came away with an explanation of the concept and the necessity of such an endeavor.
||What inspired you to create DooBop?
||Our concept is Beauty Without Struggle. We want women to explore and discover beauty in the simplest and most enjoyable way possible. For women of color and with textured hair, our beauty experience is quite difficult. We’re forced to shop in multiple outlets to find what we need and there is rarely an expert behind a counter that knows more than we do. As women of color we’re repeat shoppers but not satisfied consumers. DooBop is a beauty e-tailer with a particular edit for brown skinned and textured hair women. We scout locally and abroad to find what we feel are the best and most innovative prestige and boutique brands for our customer. We cherry pick particular products within each range which make sense for brown skin and textured hair.
||So many sites and physical retailers are focusing on multicultural beauty these days. How does DooBop move beyond the typical multiculti beauty shopping experience?
||DooBop is about moving beyond the ‘ethnic aisle’ and discovering beauty from the inside out – personalized beauty. We personally test each product we sell and try to give insight into more relevant ways to use an item. For example, conditioner as a co-wash, skincare oil as a split ends treatment. We give you beauty in ‘real-time’ with real women as our inspiration.
||Talk to me about the charitable component of DooBop? I love that angle of what you’re doing.
||DooBop is about being committed to our local community – for each order made through the site, we donate $1 to Community of Unity, a NY-based organization which develops after-school programs in public schools for ‘at risk’ youth. They are a wonderful organization, with a team of professionals totally committed to guide smart young people to realize their full potential.

Sally Hansen is adding a new mani maven to its roster: Madeline Poole!
The celebrity manicurist will help the nail authority set its artistic direction as its global color ambassador, following in the footsteps of nail ninja Tracy Lee. Along with setting the trends for future seasons, Poole will also ensure the models of Stella McCartney have their tips and toes in check. “This creative collaboration allows the Sally Hansen brand to integrate Madeline’s innovative designs into the brand advertising, promotion and digital campaigns,” the company told Women’s Wear Daily.
If you don’t know Poole’s name yet, you’ll know her work, which has appeared in the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Instyle (just to name a few.) She’s also worked with the likes of Sky Ferreira, Cindy Crawford, Alexa Chung, and Chloe Sevigny.
After perusing her Instagram, we’ve found a wealth of #ManiMonday inspiration!
As a slew of celebs choose between the lob squad or the pixie patrol, but leave it to Demi Lovato to buck both trends for a fresh undercut.
The X Factor judge revived the trend by shaving off half of her hair on Tuesday, sharing not only the new look with a mini selfie photo shoot but also the clippers and forgotten locks via Instagram with the caption: “So…this happened…Oops.”
She’s not the only one letting her scalp breathe; Natalie Dormer shocked everyone on the SAG’s red carpet with the edgy look. Dormer went under the clippers for her role in the final chapters of The Hunger Games. Even Jaime Pressly shore off some of her strands to complement her cropped coif earlier this year.
As Lovato’s all about edge, it’s not surprising that the star would take her tresses past a rainbow of colors. We can’t wait to see how many ways the star can style her mane!
Uh-oh, Molly! Looks like you’re not the new redhead on the block anymore! Kate Bosworth just switched her shade.
The newlywed actress was spotted Tuesday on the set of Still Alice with the new ravishing look along with Kristen Stewart while their other co-stars Julianne Moore and Alec Baldwin were on set the day before. The star told E! during Fashion Week that she was going through the color change for her role in the film that follows a psychologist who suffers from an early onset of Alzheimer’s.
Her ruby hue matches Moore’s signature tresses, which might give insight to how closely the stars’ characters will be connected in the film. We’ll have to be patient and wait to see for sure when the movie hits theaters next year. What do you think of Kate’s new color?
While fellow Glam gal Channing is known for her sequin obsession, she’s not the only one who likes to shine!
I’m a sucker for sparkle, but I usually keep it on my tips and toes. As such, I shared a few of my current faves with Poshly, including Essie’s Lots of Luxe polish, and you have the chance to win a bottle of your own! All it takes to snap up the shade is a quick quiz and you’re set, but if your patience is wearing thin, you can take more quizzes for more chances. Plus, the more quizzes you fill out, the better the site can accommodate your unique beauty preferences by sending you free products they know you’ll love.
Best of luck to all who enter; be sure to send me picture with your new polish. And if you’re in need of manicure inspiration for your new hue, Glam’s new March Mani Madness app is sure to satisfy!
Santigold is taking her creative touch from the studio to the beauty counter, all thanks to Smashbox.
The genre-bending songstress approached her own capsule collection with the notion of a post-2012 Golden Age where the earth we know fades out to reveal a parallel utopia where the earth, its inhabitants, stars, and extraterrestrials co-exist harmoniously. “Santi really brought her eclectic sense of style to this collaboration,” said Lori Taylor Davis, Smashbox’s Global Pro Lead Artist. “I love creating unique looks with the bright shades she dreamed up!”
A vibrant collage art-inspired collection (with Egyptian influences) resulted that includes two Eye Shadow Collages in Earth As We Know It and Apocalypse Now; two Be Legendary Lip Glosses in All Gold E’rything and Hot Lava; Double Ended Limitless Eye Liner in Azurite Is Never Wrong/El Dorado and Yellow Dwarf/Green Martian; plus nail polish strips. But the coolest item though has to be the Swarovski covered snake-pyramid Lipstick Ring that holds the Be Legendary Lipstick in Still Kickin’.
The eclectic collection is sure to be a must-have amongst beauty buffs and music mavens alike, after all, as the creator herself says, “The thrill is to make it up.”
