Season after season, Mara Hoffman delights editors, retailers, bloggers, and influencers during her fashion shows in New York and Miami with bold prints, gorgeous bikinis, and vibrant hues. With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2014 quickly approaching, anticipation is rapidly growing. As we drift off into a print daydream thinking about the swimsuits we’re about to crush on, Hoffman is celebrating a major accomplishment before the shows – the title of “Mercedes-Benz Presents” designer for the season! She’s following in the fashionable footsteps of designers including Vitamin A, Red Carter, Trina Turk, and LUXE by Lisa Vogel.

In addition to the honor, Hoffman’s enjoying an aesthetic opportunity as well. Though she normally outfits humans with her designs, she had the chance to outfit a Mercedes Benz in one of her iconic prints thanks to the new title! “It was pretty amazing to see a Mercedes-Benz car in our print!” she told Glam, recounting the first moment when she saw the car in all its Mara Hoffman glory. “This took something we do well and put it in a new context.” We caught up with the designer as she prepped for Miami Fashion Week to talk bikinis, inspiration, and her newest honor.

Q: What can we expect from your swim collection and runway show this season?
A: We always have a few surprises in store! This collection was inspired by mysticism and mythology of India. As always, it’s a celebration of color and print.
Q: Your prints are bold and bright – where do you find inspiration season after season?
A: Inspiration can come from anywhere- from a place in the world to a place from the heart…There are endless sources of inspiration out there.
Q: As the Mercedes Benz Presents designer with a focus on convertible fashion, how would you dress up your swimsuits to go from an afternoon poolside to a night out?
A: I like the idea of throwing on a pair of our slouch pants over a maillot in a matching print and converting the maillot into more of a leotard look. We also are huge fans of beach cover-ups that work as dresses for a night out. I’m all about comfort and not taking things too seriously.
Q: If your bikinis were beaches, which would they be?
A: Tulum, Ibiza, or the shores of India
Q: What’s the most remote location you’d die to see your swimsuit on?
A: Timbuktu

In addition to the car, Hoffman is also outfitting a convertible tee in the print, which will be sold exclusively at Miami’s Alchemist boutique. For those heading down to Miami for the shows, make sure to take a peek at the E-Cabriolet convertible, all dressed up in a never before seen print from Hoffman 2014 Resort Collection at The Raleigh hotel!
