Why would Paris Hilton make a great poker player? Despite the jokes at her expense, no famous face hides her feelings as well as the blonde entertainer and front-page party girl.
Paris plays close to home as the title “hottie” in her new film, The Hottie and the Nottie. Her real-life experience aside, Hilton worked with an acting coach, confessing that this movie is the first time she took acting seriously. Now, if only she could get the rest of the world to take her seriously.
But Paris doesnt deserve the jokes; in person, shes surprisingly down-to-earth.

Youve sometimes been called a diva, but I have never once seen you be rude to anyone.
“That was definitely the way that we were raised by my mom. She always taught us to be polite. We had the best manners, so Ive kept them.”
Any other “mom advice” you still carry with you?
“‘Put your shoulders back and dont chew gum.’”
“My mom has always been really supportive. Shes one of my best friends. And shes just always told me to stay the same and stay the sweet girl Ive always been since I was little and not let any of the Hollywood stuff get to my head, and youll leave a good karma.”
Sounds like that would be good advice for Britney Spears. I spoke to Sarah Michelle Gellar, and she said, Im tired of the Britney jokes. This is not funny. Do you agree?
“Yeah, of course I agree. Its very sad. And people should just let her get better and leave her alone.”
The media seem preoccupied with the “Hollywood bad girls,” and often your name is on that list. Is that unfair?
“Yeah, you know, thats just a stereotype theyve come up with. And thats fine, but Im not a bad girl [laughs].”
Weve even seen you under pressure during some stressful times. How do you keep the day-to-day attention from getting to you?
“I handle it really well. I dont let that bother me or let the media or paparazzi take over my life. I try not to pay attention to things that are negative.”
Its great to be the “hottie”, but, especially when were young, we never want to be the “different person.” Was that hard on you, being the one who stood out?
“Sometimes, when people would get mean just because my last name is also a famous hotel chain. But even then I had my friends, so it never really hurt me.”
Every woman has an ugly day. Do you?
“I think were humans. All girls feel like a “nottie” some dayslike someone who isnt turning heads. Thats just part of life. I just get a facial or a massage. Pampering yourself gets you back into “hottie”-ness.”

Are you less trusting now?
“You have to be in this town. Im very wary of people. I only surround myself with my really close friends and people Ive known a long time and people I know love me and know the real me.”
“You know, Im a really good judge of character, so when people are around that shouldnt be there, I usually will know right away. I know how to make the right choices.”
Are you a confronter or will you just get out of the way?
“I am not a confronter at all. Thats something I need to work on. Im actually very shy when it comes to that. Ive never been someone who loves confrontation at all.”
Not everyone can be a “hottie,” but can they still find something in themselves to feel good about?
“Definitely. I think thats what life is about. You only live once, and you want to make it as best a life you can have. And I feel like, if people are confident and believe in themselves, that they can all be “hotties.”
“If youre single and you want to go dating and have fun and be young and whatever, just go and get a makeover.”
People talk about lifestyles of the rich and the famous. Which is better?
“I think it would be better just to be rich, because then you dont have to deal with anything else. You can just have everything you want and not have to deal with the press and people following you.”
“But being rich doesnt even matter, either. I have both, and it doesnt even make any difference. I could be happy if I had nothing. So its not, its not really about money to me.”
What would surprise us about you?
“Im really good at ice hockey. Ive been playing since 10th grade, and people dont know that I play defense in hockey. I like to check people, push people down.”
“And I love fishing. I like to catch them, but I dont eat them. I just put them right back, because I feel bad for them.”
Theres a rumor out there that you’re planning to do The L Word, the series about lesbians.
“Its true. I have no idea what kind of character Ill be playing, but its a good show.”
Do you still say, Thats hot, or did you have enough people making fun of that?
“No, I still say it, not as much as I used to, but I say it sometimes. Its kind of a habit.”
