Philadelphias Kate Spray just nabbed the top prize in a national fashion design competition co-sponsored by www.Glam.com and MSN.com called Be Discovered: Design a Dress. Youll find sketches of Kates winning design along with a gallery of finalists designs and profiles at: www.glam.com/bediscovered and http://lifestyle.msn.com/beautyandfashion. Finalists dresses will be auctioned on eBay beginning Monday, May 5, and proceeds will go to benefit Dress for Success.
Spray will fly to New York this summer, where she will become Apprentice Designer for a Day at ADAM, the posh design studio of acclaimed fashion designer Adam Lippes. Sprays inspiring design is a breezy summer dress that reimagines the 70s flower child-frock for todays chic, boho buyer. The aspiring designer will also receive a $500 gift certificate from Lord & Taylor.
More than 450 aspiring designers submitted sketches of their original designs earlier this year, with eight finalists decided by audience vote on MSNs beauty and fashion channel and on Glam.com. The eight finalists, including Spray, were given three weeks to create a prototype of the design and send it to Glam Media headquarters in New York, where a panel of fashion industry experts viewed the finalists dresses and selected the winner. Judges included renowned designers Monique Lhuillier and Adam Lippes, celebrity stylist and House of Deréon designer Tina Knowles and Lord & Taylor merchandising manager, Vanessa Lefebvre.
