peanutbutterbars.jpg Chocolate peanut butter bars are one of my all-time favorite treats to make.

I like to add a pinch of salt to the peanut butter mixture.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

1 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1 cup peanut butter
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
4 tablespoons peanut butter

In a medium bowl, mix together the butter or margarine, graham cracker crumbs, confectioners’ sugar, and 1 cup peanut butter until well blended. Press evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 9×13 inch pan.

In a metal bowl over simmering water, or in the microwave, melt the chocolate chips with the peanut butter, stirring occasionally until smooth. Spread over the prepared crust. Refrigerate for at least one hour before cutting into squares.

Pimped Snack: Mint Slice

peppermint

The guys at Pimp That Snack have one again outdone themselves with a gigantic Arnott’s Mint Slice!

I’m not a huge fan of peppermint on its own (I don’t mind it, just don’t care for it) but pair it with chocolate and I’m a goner. They made the gigantic patty using their usual huge amounts of chocolate, a lot of peppermint extract, and a homemade fondant.

Now I need to plan a trip down to Cost Plus to see if they have the (regular sized) Mint Slices!

chocolate crinkles

I needed some chocolate comfort food this week after moving, and the first thing I decided to make in our new kitchen was chocolate crinkle cookies. They hit the spot for all of us perfectly!

Get a Chocolate Treat Every Hour

chococlock

This is perfect for the chocoholic who has everything: The Chococlock delivers a little piece of chocolate every hour on the hour! It plays “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” and gives you 30 seconds to retrieve the chocolate before it closes back up for another hour.

It’ll hold about 30 pieces of chocolate, like Whoppers or peanut M&M’s, and there’s even a “cheat” button on top so you can sneak a few more in between deliveries. It also has a light sensor so the door doesn’t open when it’s dark, and you can manually turn it off too.

Premium M&Ms Review

m&ms premiums premium m&ms

Have you tried the new Premium M&M’s? M&M’s/Mars released five new flavors earlier this summer: Chocolate Almond, Mocha, Triple Chocolate, Raspberry Almond, and Mint Chocolate.

I picked up the Mocha and Triple Chocolate at the grocery store last week. At about $3 a pop for 6 oz I couldn’t afford to get all of them!

The packaging is different than the usual bags - these are in slim recloseable boxes and the M&M’s are in a resealable plastic package inside. The candy itself is a little bit larger than a regular M&M (smaller than a peanut M&M, though) and has some pretty speckling patterns on the outside.

I bit into one, expecting it to more or less be an expensive M&M. I was very surprised to find that there was no crunchy candy shell - it was soft! My first thought was that it had somehow gotten soggy (I don’t know how or why, it was just my first reaction) before realizing that was how it was supposed to be.

The Triple Chocolate, to me, was pretty unremarkable. They were dry and didn’t hit smooth or creamy. These contain layers of dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate and there really wasn’t one that stood out, which I suppose is the point. In the aftertaste I actually got more of the white chocolate, which I’m not at all crazy about. I wouldn’t buy these again (though I’m already starting to wonder how they’d hold up in a batch of cookies or brownies..!).

The Mocha were a small step up from the Triple Chocolate. They also have the disconcerting soft shell with a brown spattered pattern. The coffee flavor is noticeable but there’s not so much of it that it becomes that fakey coffee flavor. The chocolate is also on the dry side, which I think is just the norm for M&M’s since the usual hard shell kind of helps detract from that and doesn’t make it as noticeable.

Overall I just wasn’t impressed with the Premium M&M’s and am kind of glad I didn’t get the other three, though an almond center might have worked better with the dry chocolate than just flavoring.

Have you tried the Premium M&M’s? What did you think?
