The "Leader of the Band" is gone.

Soft rocker DAN FOGELBERG died Sunday of cancer, his Web site reports. The singer of '80s ballads such as "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Leader of the Band" passed away peacefully at his home in Maine. A note on his site read, "Dear friends, Dan left us this morning at 6 a.m. He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife, JEAN, at his side. His strength, dignity, and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."
Fogelberg had been battling prostate cancer since 2004. He was 56 years old.
