The Stripe Hype

Hi all,
On the Spring 2007 runways stripes were abundant. Chanel used the pattern for mini dresses and hooded sweaters. Givenchy did striped hosiery. Diesels designs consisted of some striped skin tight jeans that youd have to be very thin and practically perfect to wear, and several other designers used stripes for beach wear, leggings, and more. Of course, stripes are best used on shoes this season (bet you saw that coming!). Giorgio Armani, Diesel, Viktor and Rolf, and Roger Vivier all included striped shoes in their high end collections, thankfully, were starting to see the pattern trickle down into the more affordable brands. The most popular way of using stripes seem to be either the nautical look (red, white and blue) or the jailbird look (white and black). However stripes can be very dressy too, as in the case of Sam Edelmans gold and black striped shoes Danica. Another interesting factor is that most stripes tend to be horizontal this season. Vertical stripes, while they can help for a thinner, longer looking you, are not as in (though, just between us, I think you can get away with it). Bottom line, if you like stipes, there are a lot of cute options for day and night, and since stipes are certainly nothing new in apparel, you can easily find very affordable pieces to wear.
