DALLAS, Mar 15, 2007 / FW/ Wow! High fives for 25! The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) celebrates its 25th anniversary this June, when it holds its annual gala celebration in New York.
Traditionally, it is also the time when the CFDA bestows fashions highest honors, and last Monday, the organization announced the nominees and special awards recipients for 2007.
Topping the list are: Oscar de la Renta, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler, and Marc Jacobs who are competing for the
Womenswear Designer of the Year award.
Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Steven Cox & Daniel Silver for Duckie Brown are nominated for the
Menswear Designer of the Year award.
And for the
Accessory Designer of the Year Award, Marc Jacobs who garnered his second nomination for this year join Michael Kors and Derek Lam are up for bat.
For emerging designers, the Swarovskis Perry Ellis Award is now simply called the Swarovski Award. The nominees for 2007 are:
Womenswear: Phillip Lim, Kate & Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte, and Thakoon Panichgul
Menswear: Michael Bastian, Tim Hamilton, and Rag & Bones David Neville and Marcus Wainwright,
Accessory: Justin Giunta for Subversive, Jessie Randall for Loeffler Randall, and Anna Sheffield for Bing Bang.
In the Special Awards category, the Lifetime Achievement Award had been renamed the Geoffrey Been Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of the late designer who during his lifetime received four CFDA fashion awards.
The momentous occasion comes as Beene pledged a $5 million donation from his estate to establish a scholarship foundation and to further the goals of the CFDA.
The special awardees for the 2007:
- Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Robert Lee Morris
- Eugenia Sheppard Award - Robin Givhan, fashion editor of the Washington Post
- Eleanor Lamber Award - Patrick Demarchelier
- International Award Pierre Cardin
- CDFA Board of Directors Accolade Award - Bono
Debuting in 2007 is the
American Fashion Legend Award, and its first recipient is Ralph Lauren who is celebrating 40-years in fashion.
The 2007 CFDA Fashion Awards is slated on June 4 at the New York Public Library. Underwritten by Swarovski for the sixth year in a row, the event will be produced by KCD while Douglas Lloyd of Lloyd + Co will art direct the graphic presentation.
