African supermodels, such as Liya Kebede, Alek Wek, and Iman have always been noted for their beauty and talent so it's no surprise that soon, Washington DC will be filled with hundreds of African models for the International African Modelling Competition. A press release for the competition says:

"This year the nations capital pays homage to the legacy of African models by offering aspiring models of African descent the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of other successful models from the region. The African International Modeling Competition will showcase the beauty and dynamic talent of 25 aspiring African models in hopes of launching the career of the next prominent African supermodel. The competition will provide invaluable exposure and experience, career opportunities and exciting prizes for its contestants.

The African International Modeling Competition is the brainchild of longtime pageant coordinator Junda Morris-Kennedy. Since relocating to the U.S. from Liberia in 1990, Morris-Kennedy has worked tirelessly to create a wealth of opportunities for aspiring African models throughout the world. She is the founder of the National Miss Ebone Pageant, and has served as the director of the Miss Liberia Maryland Pageant. She is currently the Executive Director of the African International Modeling Competition and the Africa scout for New Silk Road Model Look International in China."

Cool! The 25 finalists are expected to be announced in September.
