Jane Fonda has hit out at
Paris Hilton, insisting she is "glad" the socialite was handed a jail sentence for violating her probation.
During an appearance on Larry Kings talk show last night, the 69-year-old actress claimed those less privileged than the hotel heiress would have received an ever harsher punishment.
She said, "Im glad shes being sentenced. Im glad she is going to do the time. If she were black, if she were poor, she would have done it much sooner. Maybe the first time that she had an offense. I believe these young people have to, you know, have to -- have to learn their lessons... If you dont have that in your life as a young person, its really tough. And especially if youre rich and spoiled and you are made into a celebrity. Somebody is going to give you your comeuppance and hopefully these young people are smart enough to learn from it."
Paris responded to Jane's condemnation by smiling blankly and saying, "Yeah, but will you sign my
petition, Ms.
Welch?"
