A rare medical condition involving sex and sleep has both sleep specialists and other researchers struggling to find the cause and treat it.
Sexsomnia, aggressively pursuing sexual activities while sleeping, is viewed mostly as another form of sleepwalking, though those with the condition tend to stay in their beds, rather than walking.
Patients too embarrassed to discuss the condition with their physicians and doctors who don⿿t ask about it have also hindered research.
There is no cure for sexsomnia, which often leads to difficulties in relationships.
