Halloween costumes - what are your kids doing?
By: Inside Motherhood    7 days 5 hours 30 minutes ago

I have a confession to make - I enjoy Halloween more than any other holiday. I have another confession - part of the reason I send my kids out to Trick-or-Treat is so I can raid their candy stash.

Shhh! Don’t tell them.

This year my oldest wants to dress as a mermaid and my little one wants to be a witch. The witch will not be a problem. The mermaid might be on the expensive side so I may have to put on my thinking cap and make one myself. It wouldn’t be the first time. I’ve also made her an ant costume and last year I turned black leggings, my black hoodie, and some sewed-on white pieces of fabric into an Orca costume for her (sheesh!).

Are your kids going out for the spookiest night of the year? What costume are they wearing?

Will a fan help prevent SIDS for your baby?
By: Inside Motherhood    8 days 2 hours 34 minutes ago
Channel: Parenting Baby Family

All the morning news shows were full of the buzz about a study that claims a fan in your baby’s room might reduce the risk of SIDS for your baby.

The statistics from the study show that fans reduced the risk of SIDS by 72%. It also offered extra protection to babies who sleep in a warm bedroom. One belief for the helpful nature of the fans is that it improves the circulation of the air in the room, which helps prevent the babies from breathing in carbon dioxide - this happens when the baby exhales and then re-inhales it from a pocket between the baby and the mattress.

I find this interesting but I think that it’s important to remember other important ways of protecting your baby from SIDS - proven methods like putting your baby to sleep on his or her back, and not smoking around your baby.

It should be noted this study only covered 185 infants who died from SIDS and 312 who did not.

Channel: Parenting Baby Family

blogtoberfest2008October is traditionally an exciting month for b5media’s Lifestyles Channel and our readers. Summer is over and the Holidays have not yet begun, so it is the perfect time for us to thank our readers for their continued loyalty!

To do this, we’ve joined forces with hundreds of sponsors to create a two week extravaganza of giveaways, jump-starting the holiday season and allowing our readers to win gifts, both for themselves and for giving. This year’s Blogtoberfest is better than ever before. We have simplified the process and the sponsors have been extremely generous in the gifts that they are offering and as a result, we’ll be passing on in excess of $7,000 worth of prizes! Don’t miss a minute of the fun!

Blogtoberfest officially kicks off today - Monday, October 6, 2008

There are lots of great prizes to be given away. Prizes are available to U.S. and Canada residents unless otherwise noted. All you have to do is:

  1. Browse the channel or visit your favorite blogs.

  2. Watch for sponsored prize winning posts wearing the official Blogtoberfest button shown above.
  3. Leave a comment on that exact post. Your comment IS your entry.
  4. Check back with that blog within a week and see what the prize is and if you’re the lucky winner.

Consider subscribing to the Inside Motherhood blog feed, and some of the other Lifestyles channel blog feeds to make sure you don’t miss out on any exciting opportunities. Many blogs will be conducting between 2 and 7 giveaways and just where those will be appearing is a secret and half the fun!

Each prize-winning post will share links to other prize winning blogs for that same day. This makes hunting easier and improves your chances of winning! That’s it! Participating blogs can be found at our channel hub.

Featured Mom blogger: One Mother of a Blog
By: Inside Motherhood    9 days 22 hours 18 minutes ago
Channel: Parenting Baby Family

I don’t know about you, but while I enjoy a variety of blogs, the vast majority of the ones I read regularly are written by mothers. Because of that, I thought that I would start featuring Mom Blogs for those of you who would possibly enjoy reading them as well. If you have any to suggest - your own or one you love to read - please feel free to let me know by emailing me at the address in the sidebar.

I’ve found that most Mom Blogs are written by mothers in their 20s or 30s, with a few in their 40s. They write, like I do, about their young children. Many of them are still feeling like new moms and share their stories to relate to others. However, the first blog I’d like to feature is actually a mother who has grown children and several grandchildren who are already teenagers. While it’s fun to read stories from mothers who are going through the same things I am, you know what? Sometimes it’s just refreshing to read someone who has already gone through it and lived to tell the tale.

One Mother of a Blog features everything from personal anecdotes (which should at least get you smiling, possibly even laughing) to quilting tales with beautiful photos, to recipes that are so tempting they’ll make your mouth water. Check out One Mother of a Blog and enjoy knowing that even on those days when tantrums and picky eaters make you want to tear your hair out, you really can survive parenting and live to tell the tale!

Angelina Jolie is a hot mom
By: Inside Motherhood    10 days 1 hours 45 minutes ago
Channel: Parenting Baby Family

Angelina Jolie only gave birth to her twin babies about three months ago, but as is often typical in Hollywood world, it didn’t take very long for her to bounce back. The public barely saw Angie for most of the three months, but when she finally emerged for her movie premiere on Saturday, October 4th, it was incredible to see how in shape she is. Not only that, while you can catch a glimmer of tired in her eyes, she looks fantastic in general. I know stylists and makeup teams can go a long way, but still - Angelina Jolie is the epitome of the Hot Mom in my opinion (which may not be a surprise considering one of my other blogs!).

Who is your “Hot Mom” choice?
