The rules are:
a) Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more.
b) Find page 123.
c) Find the first 5 sentences and read them.

The nearest book was anything on the top shelf of my bookcase. From there I will share something from one of my favorite books: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.
"An unpleasant feeling weighed on her heart when she felt his fixed and weary gaze, as if she had expected to find him different. She was particularly struck by the feeling of dissatisfaction with herself which she experienced when she met him. It was that ordinary well-known feeling, as if she were dissembling, which she experienced in regard to her husband; but formerly she had not noticed it, while now she was clearly and painfully conscious of it."
Here Anna returns home to her husband after a brief "alone" vacation. The problem is that during this away time she has met (and fallen for) the handsome Vronsky.
What I love about Anna Karenina is that she is such a real woman: she is beautiful but far from perfect, she acts on impulse and makes many mistakes, she is full of joie de vivre and tormented by choices and doubts.
But above all, I love her because she follows her heart (no matter what the consequences, no matter what the sacrifices).
