It was a cute weekend of shows. We especially liked Erin Featherstons's old fashioned girly-girl show which began with the very sweet looking Zooey Deschanel belting out a tune. Here Erin is with Zooey from
style.com where you can see the rest of the clothes. Sweet, fresh stuff kind of like a more girly Anna Sui. Then we hit Diane Von Furstenberg's show which was filled with boldface names, socialites, BPs and MONEY. I must say Diane looks gorgeous. She is beautiful, glamorous, a princess, head of the CFDA, married to a billionaire and hardworking. The clothes? These are working girl clothes (hopefully at working girl prices) -- kind of cool to have a princess designing for working girls. I liked all her mutations on her wrap dresses. Plus I like Diane because she is one of the few who shows her clothing on people of all colors. Her universe is not white....but much more diverse.Today I fell HARD for Isaac Mizrahi's collection shown this morning in his huge midtown studio on 10th Avenue. It wasn't a huge collection but it was SO gorgeous, chic, crisp, glamorous, charming, modern, playful and flawless. He is so true to his creative vision -- smart, inventive and SO American. I adored how he took a fluorescent orange and
paled it out. I adore how his glamorous evening dresses all have
pockets. I loved his furry "poodle" ankle boots. I adored his to die
for big winter silk floral prints that he scribbled over. (See photo and more on
style.com.) He is SUCH a great
American talent. Between Isaac and Isabel Toledo designing the Ann
Klein collection this season, American fashion is making a true comeback. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one screaming for this kind of stuff... mostly because it's not necessarily trendy. I feel the same way about Isabel Toledo's work. These genius American designers are treated like shit by the fashion world who should be respecting them as treasures. I heard an editor I really respect say something about Isabel Toledo the other day that disappointed me, but spoke volumes about what these fashion power people want to celebrate. She said, "I hope for Isabel's sake that she gets a stylist that can make her clothes look HIP." I hate that she said that. But I really think this is all those magazines want to see. Hipness. Not great talent, good design, beautiful clothes, new ideas. They just need it to be trendy. I don't get it. But then again, that's why I've never been exactly a fashion insider. More later.........
