The Final Four:Jeffrey, Uli, Laura, & MichaelI was truly amazed to have four designers with design philosophies and aesthetics that are so different from one another. No wonder there has been so much disagreement as to who should have won! Michael has clearly been the fan favorite, Jeffrey the resident bad boy who has always been a contender just the man everyone loves to hate, and Uli the nice girl who when you try really hard to find something bad to say about and you just wind up feelings like a major league asshole, & of course Laura, the sophisticated designer who isn't afraid to tell it like it is, but is stubborn in her design philosophies & aesthetics. All of the designers will go on to do great things, but I think that the designer who isn't afraid to take risks is going to come out on top. There is a fine line that you have to walk, and some cross it and are sent packing while others never step near the line and find themselves AUFED. The two best examples of this during this season were my two favorite designers Robert Best who was sadly labeled as BORING, and Alison Kelly who took a major risk during the recycling challenge and was sent home prematurely. The only designer who surprised us on a regular basis by taking risks and in doing so succeeded repeatedly, was Jeffrey. Throughout the show Jeffrey maintained a clear point of view, but has never been afraid to shake it up, and this, love him or hate him, is what got him to the number 1 spot.
Congratulations to Jeffrey for taking home the top honors for Project Runway season 3! The innovations and edginess of Jeffrey's collection made him stand out. Even amid
suspicions and controversy, he came out on top. I wanted him to win more than Uli because of the accusations Laura put forward. I don't believe that Jeffrey "cheated" or outsourced his work, and for that I am extremely happy he won.
Jeffrey posing with his collection: Jeffrey Wins: Michael:Michael, is the youngest and the most inexperienced of all the designers but is quite possibly the most likable. While I didn't care for his collection I expect only great things from him. He will learn. For his collection it was truly a matter of taste, and the judges didn't bite nor did I. He is constantly evolving as a designer, and probably has the most promise of all the designers.
Laura Overall, the collection was very sophisticated with simple shapes, and fantastic tailoring. There were no surprises in this collection, and unfortunately for Laura that cost her.
ULI Uli stayed true to herself & to the season by giving her collection a warm weather feel, but didn't go over the top with the prints & Caribbean styling. I loved her use of the silver fabric and her combination of the silver with the beige. her tailoring and fit was superb. Uli gave it her all to break out of her shell, but was careful to remain true to her inspirations and her own design philosophies. She succeeded and I would wear almost every dress she showed.
