Forth and Towne, Gaps concept store aimed at upscale 30 somethings, will be closing all of its 19 stores by June of this year. The stores were a welcome departure from the overstuffed Gaps. They are roomy boutiques where you were offered water while trying on clothes in to-die-for dressing rooms (seriously, if you live in one the ten cities that have a store-check them out while you can. Even my sulky teenage daughter commented on them). The staff was also a departure from what you might expect (remember SNLs Gap Girls?.) The ladies here are attentive and helpful. Of course, all this means nothing if the fashions are stodgy duds. They arent, which makes it all the more a shame that this concept didnt catch on with shoppers. Styles are perfect for the woman who wants something fresh and chic, in both casual and dressy styles, that did not leave the wearer looking like someone trying to relive their 20s. So, I guess its time to wait for the big clearance sale before Forth and Towne goes to that great mall in the sky.
