Actress Cameron Diaz gives a pretty long and initmate interview in the new issue of W magazine. Even though shes the third-highest paid actress in Hollywood (after Reese Witherspoon and Angelina Jolie), commanding $15 million a movie she seems to long to take time off and enjoy life. She talks about her dreams, future goals, and her favorite cities. Here are some highlights from the interview:
Cameron on whether being an actress was her fantasy as a kid:
Oh, no. I wanted to be a zoologist, to study the sociology of animals. But thats pretty much what I do now anyway. I thought Id be on the plains of Africa watching lions, but instead Im in Hollywood watching train wrecks. And then she busts out laughing and adds hastily, Im just kidding.
Cameron on her future goals:
Just kind of taking more time getting to know myself. It sounds so corny that I cant believe I even just said that, but, you know, there comes a time when you really have to get to know who you areIve just been figuring out what interests me and spending time with people who are important to me and being present in my own life.
Cameron on Las Vegas:
I looooove Vegas. Its such an easy trip from L.A., and theres always a hotel room because theres about a billion of them, but honestly, you dont even really need one if youre just going for the weekend!?
Cameron on living in Los Angeles:
Im done with L.A. Those guys [the paparazzi], you cant get away from them. You have no options because everybodys in a car.
Cameron on living in New York:
Here, I can walk down the street like everybody else. Not everybody is there to be rich and famous or attach themselves to rich and famous people. People want nothing from you. They just want to say, like, Hey, hows it going, Cameron? I like that interaction. I like to be in a place where I can be open to people and not worry about the consequences.
You can walk down the street and end up in a gallery or some wonderful ethnic-food restaurant, or you can stop in a shop that sells, I dont know, staplers from all over the world! she enthuses, sounding, endearingly, more like a tourist than a movie star. You dont get that in L.A.that kind of, I dont know, specialty.
