Went thrifting yesterday and despite the disappointment of a great dress that turned out absolutely too big, I came away with two bags full of clothes and books for under $30. My favorite items:Once the poorly executed yarn trim is removed, this jacket will be perfect. This patterned shift dress was only $2! These earrings were only $1.50, and I wish I could have captured more details of the delicate workmanship. This dish is in perfect condition, and I love nothing more than vintage Pyrex dishware. If I could afford it, all my dishes would be luminous vintage Pyrex in yellow and baby blue. All day yesterday, as I browsed through racks of worn-out khaki pants and cheap-looking blouses, I thought about the generic state of today's common goods; I truly believe it's one of the greatest tragedies we face. We're eliminating beauty and uniqueness from our day-to-day existence, with no thought to what effect it will have on our psyches. In 10 years, will anyone want the dishes you bought at IKEA? Or the ragged Gap t-shirt that looked nice for exactly one week? In 10 weeks, will you want them yourself?
