My Easter was a lovely chocolate-, magazine-, and sunshine-filled Sunday. I've always been a complete holiday girl, and though Easter was never my
favorite holiday, I always looked forward to it because I knew that the arrival of Easter meant a new pretty little dress and shoes for me.Months in advance, I would begin planning out every last detail of my all important Easter ensemble. I was never a white gloves and church hat kind of girl - how can you eat messy Reese's peanut butter eggs when you're wearing prissy white accessories? - but I adored carefully selecting the dress, the matching shoes, and the matching back-up cardigan (in case it rained... which it
always did).Seeing little girls wearing taffeta pastel dresses and matching pastel shoes yesterday brought back memories of my Easter dresses. I was reminded of my first foray into catalog shopping as a wee fashion obsessed little girl. I always received the
Storybook Heirloom catalog in early February and would proceed to memorize every last dress, shoe, and last hair accessory. I would go back and forth with myself, "I like that one!"..."No, I want this one!"..."But I love that one best!" Year after year, though, I was never quite able to convince my mom that my nine-year-old self really
needed that
$98 eyelet party dress and matching mary janes that I would ineviteably only wear once. Don't feel sorry for me though... it was those early experiences that armed me with the shopping-related negotiating skills that I now possess.-tf
