Let me apologize for being a little M.I.A. this weekend. I'm out of town because my big brother has a big birthday - he's turning twenty! I won't go too into detail because, not that he reads my site, but he would be beyond embarrassed knowing I'm talking about him to girls across the United States (coming from his sisters POV, though, my bro is cute).
Anyway, while birthday shopping for him yesterday, my mom and I went straight to the only place we knew was sure to be a success: the Ralph Lauren department. We were at an average department store and to be honest, I was expecting much... maybe a few stacks of Polo polos and a handful of sweaters.
Au contrare. We walked into that Ralph Lauren department and I thought I'd landed in heaven. First my eyes caught a glimpse of whole rainbow of polos (seriously - you name a color and it could have been found in that store). Next, I came across racks and racks of even more polos (striped, floral, lobstar-embroidered), preppy oxford stripe swim trucks, madras blazers, plaid shorts - even seersucker bucket hats. I didn't even know where to start.
But then it hit me: I'm not a man. I can't fit into this stuff. I would've bought that madras blazer in a second... but then I realized I would look like a little girl dressing up in daddy's clothes in that. I would wear those adorable oxford stripe swim trucks to the pool. But that would be offensive on so many levels.
In the end, my mom and I settled on two skinny fit polos. For my brother. I, on the other hand, left with empty hands and an overwhelming desire to log on to polo.com. You know what I need? A boyfriend. To shop for. But that's it.
