Last summer, a new store opened in my shopping-deprived area. I wasn't familiar with the name and felt a little leery of the location, so my mom ended up testing the waters by herself. The store was so bad - athletic shirts, "humor" tees, baseball hats - and we deemed the store not worthy of the 20 minute drive. The store's name:
Steve & Barry's.You can imagine my utter shock when I found out that one of my favorite starlets in the whole wide world, the lovely SJP, signed on to have her own line with the store known for their "university sportswear" - their words, not mine. Proenza at Target? Genius. Stella at H&M? Perfect. But SJP at an athletic store? Why, why, why? First of all, the celebrity slash designer idea is incredibly overdone by this point. Secondly, the hi-lo concept only works if the designer is a reknowned, in-demand label. SJP, if you're low on cash, the answer is simple: do a Sex and The City movie or spin-off series and make millions of adoring fans happy. Don't worry, we still love you. Just not your $10 clothing line.-tf
