Long-time readers of this column will know that I don⿿t like green at all unless I love it, and even then my favorite greens are usually blue, mustard, grey or olive. Much to my surprise, here⿿s a green I was startled to become suddenly quite smitten with
In my view, this started out as the wrong color on the wrong wall with the wrong pattern and not enough time to complete the project. In short, it was the foundation for a perfect match. The base coat is Cucumber Salad⿿what I think of as Coke-Bottle Bottom Green--and it⿿s something I associate with the 1940s. It⿿s a bit reserved, but definitely has its playful side, just like a lady with a cardigan sweater buttoned around her shoulders.
So too, with the room in which it was situated, with its tufted leather furniture set under contemporary photographs in a big, bright loft. There were also two chairs upholstered in Hunter Green, and that whittled color options down to nothing. And when the idea of wallpaper came up for a moment, I suggested we could paint it on instead and save the hassle.
The stripes themselves are clear satin glaze over matte paint. Whereas the color in each is technically the same thing, the glaze ⿿glows⿿ differently in an effect that is subtle, elegant and brings the room to life.
I⿿ll call the result ⿿transitional.⿿ It⿿s not Modern, it⿿s not Traditional⿿it⿿s a
transition between the two, and brings the disparate decorative elements into closer harmony. Call for your stripes today.
