If your man is like mine, he’s pretty low-maintenance when it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day and doesn’t really expect gifts. Which is fine with me - between his birthday, our anniversary and Christmas, when V-Day rolls around I’m pretty much out of ideas!
So, while trying to figure out a cute thing to do for the Boyfriend, I came across a couple of fun tried-and-true ideas from Glam.com and Men’s Health that I’ve personally done that will really show him you care.

Give a Homemade Gift: I know, it’s cheesy, but one year, using my nifty computer and color printer, I made my beau a series of coupons - dinner out, a million kisses, a neck massage, you get the idea. I took it one step further and went to Kinko’s and had them laminated to make them look super official and cute. He absolutely loved them and still keeps them to this day - now that’s a gift that lasts forever, it’s been nearly 4 years!
Take Him Out: We all expect to be treated like princesses on Valentine’s Day, but what better way to express how much you love him for treating you like a princess everyday than by taking him out to dinner on the big day? That’s what I plan to do this week. We’re going to try out a new restaurant that I picked, Two, and am going to pick up the tab - hey, we live in a modern world, don’t we? Who knows, maybe I’ll even drive too (I know you’re reading this, Babe!)
Feed Him: If you’re not feeling the whole going out thing, opt to stay in and prepare him a nice, romantic dinner. This is especially nice for the Boyfriend because he gets off work a couple of hours before I do and usually starts dinner before I even get home most days. So surprise him by taking the reigns on dinner and making him a huge steak with potatoes, or chicken marsala like I did one year. It was a hit that first time I made it for him on Valentine’s Day a couple of years ago and still is (we just had it for dinner this week and last weekend!)
Often times, these gifts are ones that create memories that will last you a lot longer than an expensive Baume and Mercier watch - okay, maybe just as long, but you get the gist. Maybe someday I can afford to buy that watch and make him dinner!
What do you have planned for your man this Valentine’s Day? Or are you banning Feb. 14th forever?
