Royal Underground, which Gray co-founded in conjunction with Motley Crue bassist Sixx, made its fall debut in 2006 with its menswear line to the acclaim of stylists, fashion editors and store buyers who raved about the collections profound rock n roll attitude.
Given the elevated success of the mens collection, Gray and Sixx decided to take the next obvious step: clothing for women.
Not surprisingly, the line embodies the same soulful, chic and luxurious vibe as the mens line. The line will consist of between 25 and 40 pieces influenced by the French Revolution, as well as images of artwork culled from that era.
Sixx, a long-time fashion aficionado, said the womens line was precipitated by something as elemental as customer demand. Its almost more exciting to design women’s because with men, there is a limit to how far they can make everything go, fashion-wise, said Sixx. When I started to find myself jealous of Nikkis clothes, I couldnt stop thinking about the possibility of a womens clothing line, said Gray.
The collection will fall between the price range of $100 and $1,200 and will be available this October in select Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom stores across the country, and specialty boutiques such as Boogies in Aspen.
