It's amazing what effect timing can have on a fashion show. Lela Rose managed to fill the seats during her usual opening time slot on Sunday morning, which can be a challenge, but who would have guessed that the Superbowl would have put such a dent in the turnout for the always popular Tuleh show? 10:00 AM The Salon ⿢ LELA ROSE Lelarose6Lelarose7Lelarose8 Lela Rose continued refining the bloused and belled silhouette she introduced last season, and translated it into tweeds and lamé brocades. Gathers and pleats punctuated the edges giving shape to hems and necklines, and puffed skirts gained volume from her rich three dimensional "quilted link" embroideries. Burnout panne polka dot velvets flowed in soft trapeze shapes, and Roses ever-surer hand with textures served her well as she layered daisy tulle lace over shirtdresses. While she continues to ramp up the luxury factor, her swingy shapes help the collection maintain a youthful air. Rose also took the opportunity to debut her shoe collaboration with Payless, and while the shoes look great, we think it's more likely that her ready-to-wear customers will be finishing their outfits with footwear of a slightly more luxurious sort.Lelarose1 Lelarose2 Lelarose3 Lelarose4 Lelarose5 Music: Laurent Vacher's eclectic mix for LabtonicCelebrities: Sparse at this hour, but major retail presence was impressive. 7:00 PM The Promenade ⿢ TULEH Tuleh2Tuleh3Despite the upbeat disco remixes and designer Bryan Bradley's jubilant bow, this was a strangely subdued collection from Tuleh. Known for his lush prints and vibrant colors, Bradley had created a remarkably consistent fashion images for the label, but this season he pulled back and offered stripped down versions of the shapes you know and love in the neutral colors that seem to be dominating the season, giving the whole collection a surprisingly sober feeling. There were only a couple of examples of the rich colors and prints we have come to expect from Tuleh, though Bradley let loose with a series of furs, including a coat with fur appliqué creating an oversized windowpane pattern, and a cropped jacket in red mink was worn with a bright violet and red floral print dress, giving us a glimpse of the Tuleh girl we hace come to expect.
