The last 24 hours have been chock-a-block with celebrities making their fashion show appearances for reasons that passeth all understanding. We typically play it cool when it comes to actors and such, but it is hard to resist the urge to stare and assess whether this or that famous person looks different in real life than on the screen. We are students of popular culture. That's our job.

The most exciting celeb sighting had to be seeing
Roger "I just won the US Open" Federer at the
Oscar de la Renta show and at the
Marc Jacobs show. Federer was as handsome as ever but more important he was incredibly gracious as a vast number of photographers swarmed around him snapping pictures like crazy people. He was sitting next to Vogue editor
Anna Wintour, who is a huge tennis player, and she seemed to be rather in awe of him. Did we see her flick her hair with a girlish toss? But then who wouldn't be swooning in the presence of Mr. Mind-Boggling Champion?
We spotted the
Hilton sisters at the
Max Azria show Monday night and we have nothing to say about them because far too much ink has been spilled in the chronicle of their life stories. We noticed
Kevin Costner at the same show with his substantially younger wife, along with
Eva Mendez, who was busily telling a reporter that she could not participate in any fashion story in which her comments could be interpreted as a review. Apparently La Mendez was under the impression that people would actually care whether she liked the Max Azria collection, which looked a bit like Bedouin chic.
Carmen Electra has been all over the shows, and we still are at a loss to figure out exactly why she's so famous that she requires three security guards to escort her out of the building. Anyone? Anyone?
Kanye West turned up at the Marc Jacobs show. We are also told that
50 Cent was there as well, but we were so captivated by West that we somehow managed to miss Mr. Cent. Apparently he was on his best behavior and refrained from brandishing chairs at other guests the way he did at the
Baby Phat show on Friday night.
We were waiting and waiting for the
Proenza Schouler show to begin and couldn't help notice the empty seats just across the runway. Who were they being saved for? Turns out
Demi Moore,
Ashton Kutcher and
Victoria Beckham were waiting backstage to make their grand entrance. Victoria looked a bit bored in a Santa Claus plaid pencil skirt, white blouse open enough to give onlookers a clear view of her breasts and long black leather gloves that just looked ridiculous. We don't mean to be unkind but Victoria looked a little haggard, and we wanted to suggest that perhaps a nice nap and a good meal would do her good.
Demi and Ashton were lovey-dovey during the show. Demi looked bronzed and wholesome, and Ashton doesn't look like a 12-year-old boy anymore. It also helps that he's quite tall, which gives him a bit of an authoritative look. They were all hanging with the crew from
Harper's Bazaar, and Ashton was taking furious notes on the show. A guest editor, perhaps? We'll have to check on that.
