Ombr, from the French ombrer meaning "to shade," is a dip-dye effect given to fabric in which the color is graduated from light to dark. Designers used the technique to spice up their Fall 2008 collections. Reem Acra and Cynthia Rowley incorporated ombr into silk fabrics, while Costello Tagliapietra and Herve Leger used knits as the canvas. Monique Lhuillier edged up her eveningwear with ombr and Kimora Lee Simmons used bright colors to ombr a few of her Baby Phat dresses.
