Mandy Moore Talks Hair, Movies, and More

Who has 70 feet of lush, long, blonde locks and is the star of the animated adventure, Tangled? Rapunzel, of course! With a fab flair for hair, we chat to Mandy Moore – the voice of the newest Disney princess – for her top tips on tresses…

Hi Mandy! How does it feel to be the voice of Rapunzel in Tangled?
It feels amazing! This whole project has been a dream come true for me. I’m part of Disney history now. It’s crazy.

What would you do if you had 70 feet of hair?
It would be amazing to have 70 feet of hair, although I imagine it would be very heavy. I would have to figure out a way to be really creative with it because you wouldn’t want your hair to stop you from getting around. I wouldn’t want it to immobilize me!

You’re a brunette at the moment, but Rapunzel is very blond. Does she make you want to change your hair color?
To be honest, I’ve done the blond thing a few times and it’s not my best look. Rapunzel can pull it off so much better than I can, so I think I’ll leave it to her. I’m fine being a brunette.

Were you the kind of kid who used to sit in front of the mirror playing with her hair every day?
Yes and no. I was never really any good at doing my hair, but I did play with it a lot. You know what? I have always wanted to learn how to do French braids. Maybe Rapunzel will inspire me to learn now?

In honor of Rapunzel’s magical hair, have you got any top tips for us?
Well, I’m not a hairdresser, but I know a thing or two about hair. Want to know my top five hair tips? Here goes…

I think it’s fun to find inventive ways to create new looks with your hair, so experiment with braiding and plaits – and find a new style that suits you. I’m always playing around with braids. I don’t think you ever get too old for that!

If you’ve got longer hair, it’s good to know that you don’t have to wash it every day. Maybe wash it every other day. You can deplete your hair of natural oils when you wash it too often, so don’t feel like you have to clean it all the time.

It’s really important to condition your hair regularly, especially if you have longer hair. I like to add a little moisture and goodness with a conditioner every time I wash my hair. Make sure the ends get a good conditioning, too. Let it soak up the goodness!

It’s fun to experiment with cute hair accessories like clips or even a glittery tiara like the one Rapunzel wears. My favorite hair accessory is a bobby pin because you can do so many things with it. You can twist your hair or pin it all up. I think it’s a pretty handy thing to always have in your pocket.

What’s the best way to cure a bad hair day? Well, a hat always works wonders! I’m a huge fan of hats. In fact, I have loads at home. If you’re having a bad hair day, just put on a hat and get out there! Don’t let your hair get in the way of a good day.

TANGLED is Available on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD & Movie Download March 29th!
