Kilian Hennessy wants his fragrance to be visible beyond the beauty counter.
Breaking away from the typical array of lotion and body wash to accompany the brand’s scent selections, Hennessy chose, instead, to launch a line of scented jewelry he designed himself. The line includes two capsule collections: necklaces for women and bracelets for men. “We are living in a world where things that are invisible don’t exist,” Hennessy explained to Women’s Wear Daily, referring to the plethora of images on everything from Instagram to Facebook. “Perfume is an accessory in the same way shoes and handbags are. But it’s an accessory that is not visible.”
An onyx bead tassel necklace, a locket, and two other tassel models comprise the Jewels of l’Oeuvre Noire. Three of the pieces have a cage system made of perforated metal–in 18-karat gold plating or pure rhodium–that holds a a ceramic piece where the fragrance can be applied. The beaded tassel, on the other hand, has a cord microencapsulated with one of six By Kilian scents. The Leathers of l’Oeuvre Noire bracelets come in four styles in brown and gold or black and silver finishes. Plus, each arrives in a selection of five scents that can last up to a year.
The pieces will June 15 at By Kilian boutiques in n New York and Moscow before rolling out to luxury department stores in September. Prices for the women’s line range from $245 for the locket necklace to $465 for the onyx piece. The bracelets run from $195 to $325. If all goes well, we can expect to see rings and earrings in time for the holidays.
What a fresh way to accessorize!
