Cannes’ Couture: Let’s Hear It For the Trains

By  May 16, 2013

Is there anything that exclaims “expensive evening gown” so much as a gorgeous train flowing out from the bottom of a billowing dress? For a red carpet as extravagant as the Cannes Film Festival, couture creations with this classically glamorous detail couldn’t be more appropriate. Gatsby singer Lana Del Ray (in Lena Hoschek) and Georgia May Jagger (in a fiery red Roberto Cavalli number) went for timelessly styled trains that extended from a skirt, flared towards the bottom and trailed a mere foot or two. Chinese actress Fan Binbing took the train game one step further in a pale rose Louis Vuitton dress that featured a longer satin trail of luxurious fabric that dragged effortlessly behind her. No hem topped Solange Knowles’, however. Her sand colored Stéphane Rolland Haute Couture chiffon number was fashioned with an extra long cape that dramatically cascaded down the red carpet for a train-like effect. Stunning, ladies! Officially inspired, all we need to do now is find an event in which a gown with a train would be a fashion must…
