Catch Chris Harrison on the Red Carpet!

By  September 18, 2009

Who doesn’t adore Chris Harrison? He’s like the ultimate matchmaker. He helps people find love on ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. And he’s funny too. His blog about the ins and outs of reality romance always has us in hysterics. We’re just sad when we’re unable to get our funny fix of Chris Harrison between seasons of the show. Fortunately for us, we can see him live in action on Sunday night on the red carpet at the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards. Harrison, along with Carrie Ann Inaba, is hosting TV Guide Network’s pre-show, and we’re psyched to tune in and check out the fabulous fashion, funny faux pas, and more! Glam had the chance to chat with Chris about his new gig. Here’s what he had to say …

Tell me how you got this new gig hosting the Emmys red carpet for TV Guide Network?
I assume I got this gig because of my stunning good looks and insane charisma and charm, and my humility. Not sure how I got this gig but I’m truly excited I did. Hosting TV Guide Network’s Red Carpet is one of the best, most coveted jobs for a host. Live TV is my true passion and there just aren’t that many places to do that. The red carpet is the best most unpredictable two hours of live TV a host can find in this business and I love it!

Do you and Carrie Ann Inaba know each other well? How do you think the dynamic will be between the two of you on Emmys night?
Carrie Ann and I have been friends for about five years now.  TV Guide Network has deemed us the new power couple in Hollywood. While that’s a cute little catch phrase for ads the idea behind it is very real.  Our show will be a true partnership. Our goal is that when it’s over, viewers will feel like they just hung out with a couple of friends on the red carpet and it was a blast.

Do you have your Emmys tux yet? What are you wearing?
I do have my Emmy tux. I’ll be wearing a Dolce and Gabbana tux and a killer Roger Dubuis watch. Part of the fun of the Emmys is pulling out the spiffy duds and going all out. I enjoy fashion on big nights like this. I like simple and classy.  I’m not one of those “hey look at me” kind of dressers.

What are you looking forward to most at the Emmys?
It’s a bit of a contradiction but I look forward to the unknown.  My favorite part of hosting these red carpet shows is you just never know what you’re going to get.  You can plan all you want but you have no idea what Ricky Gervais or Steven Colbert will throw at you and I love that. I guarantee there will be a moment Sunday night that we’ll all be talking about that nobody saw coming. Viewers can tweet me their favorite moments @chrisbharrison.

Is there anyone you’re looking forward to meeting on the red carpet?
The list is too long to put in one article.  I love the Emmys because I love TV. I look forward to talking to Tina Fey, Justin Timberlake, Ricky Gervais (the guy kills me) and a host of others. But I always love being surprised by who I meet in these situations and always surprised by how cool some of them are and sometimes surprised by how un-cool some of them are.

Is there anyone you think got snubbed of an Emmy nomination?
Obviously for the eighth year in a row the most glaringly ridiculous snub is no nominations for the Bachelor/Bachelorette.  I don’t see how people aren’t marching in the streets and rioting due to such an injustice.  And no I don’t think I’m over reacting at all.  How has 60 minutes not done an exposé on this?

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure TV shows besides The Bachelor and The Bachelorette?
I am an Entourage junkie and I’ve also gotten hooked on HBO’s new show Hung.  It’s not usually my type of show but I love it.  I’ve always been a fan of 24.  I know I’m behind the curve but in the last year or so I’ve really gotten into 30 Rock.  But if I had to admit really guilty pleasures, and you can’t tell anybody this, I love Food Network’s Ace of Cakes and Iron Chef America. “and the secret ingredient is …”?

What stars and shows do you want to win the main categories?
Being the host of the red carpet is like being a politician, which means I will never answer any tough questions like this directly, as I just want to make everybody happy. I will tell each of them to their face that I want their show to win.  That is unless hell freezes over and The Bachelor ever gets nominated and then to heck with you all I’m rootin’ for us!

What celebrity would you love to see as The Bachelor?
Great question. I would like Ricky Gervais and Jon Stewart to be the Bachelor but only because I think it would be a blast to hang with them.  How about the crew from Entourage?  That would be a great season.

What celebrity would you love to see as The Bachelorette?
I would like to see Jennifer Aniston as The Bachelorette.  Beyond the obvious that she’s beautiful I think I could finally help her find true love. And I would get to hang out with Jennifer Aniston for a couple months.  Better check with the wife and see if she’s cool with that. On second thought, I don’t think I’ll bring that up!
