Remember the days of moms heading into the office in their skirt suits and sneakers à la 9 to 5 and Working Girl? Karl Lagerfeld clearly had a touch of nostalgia, as Chanel is keeping the memories flowing by reviving the spirit of the ‘80s for its Paris Couture Show.
Uncle Karl commissioned his beauty team – including hair guru, Sam McKnight — to pump up the volume with a hair-raising updo with a headband that had a What’s Love Got to Do With It-era Tina Turner/helmet hair flair. Plus, there was a folded French twist with a wet-look finish as an alternative for some of the softer silhouettes.
All eyes were on the makeup as the brand went graphic once again with a thick, black cat-eye on top, and glittering eyeliner on the bottom. The shimmer seemed pulled from the shimmering boucle that made its way down the runway and could have served as homage to the era’s Club Kids. There was also a no-makeup look that focused on just mascara and a plush pink pout for the models sporting the fresh-from-the-shower French twist, but all faces has a washed-out look with all flush eliminated with translucent finishing powder.
While that much glitter liner could take an eye out, it doesn’t mean a dash of dazzle can’t ante up a look for a night out on the dance floor with friends.
