Editor's Pick: Chanel Velvet Foundation

Every time a girlfriend asks to use my Chanel Perfection Lumière Long-Wear Foundation, I always preface it with “This stuff is the best and you’re going to love it, but you’re also going to hate me for introducing it to you because it’s the best ever and it’s crazy expensive.” It’s one of those products you half wish you never heard about because of the price but it’s so good you can’t imagine living without it.

After realizing that my go-to shade of 20 Beige no longer matched my summer skin, I ventured to the Chanel counter for a darker shade to mix with. It was there I was introduced to Chanel’s Perfection Lumière Velvet Smooth Effect Foundation, which provides the same beautiful coverage as Perfection Lumière but with a velvety matte finish and a lighter formula–it’s like a mix between a tinted moisturizer and a full coverage foundation. The initial application provides sheer coverage, but it builds easily and without caking. I was hesitant to try a lighter formula because I love full coverage foundations, but this stuff is the real deal. You can go a shade darker than normal and because of the light reflecting elements, and you’ll still look great even when you’re not tan. I’m putting my Perfection Lumière away until the fall and sticking with Velvet for the summer. – Cara Chronis
